Is it a good central base for exploring Portland? Is it nice?

The Benson is a great old historic hotel in downtown Portland. It's well located and very nice. Make sure to head down to the lounge and enjoy some of the jazz music that is performed live on most evenings.

Keep your eye open for traveling sports teams - it's a favorite hotel for athletes.

Sadly, Portland has no "fabulous" hotels. Nothing top notch. Always disappoints me. The Benson is what I'd call 'good'. Ona scale of 1-10 about a 7. And yes, its a great location for setting up shop to explore Portland.

My friend got married there last month. I thought it was great - it is historic and I do believe that that is where the president stays when in Portland. It is downtown so it is a good base for exploring the city. I have heard the same about the pro athletes. PS. the service was really good.
