I will second the Oysterctachers recommendation (I have found that poster to be reliable, and unless I'm off, may now be in my second year of considering " recommedations by Oyl"). I know it's close to the airport, just a short distance off I75. While I've not tried it personally, it is my intention to do so. I can certainly confirm that Leverocks and others are second rate. Fish, fish everywhere ... and not a decent filet to be had, Doc. Hmmm. Ciao

We tried Dockside Dave's last week. Asked what they do best--fried grouper and fried shrimp, so that's what we got. The fried grouper sandwich (Good grief 1/2 lb!) was good. The shrimp were not cleaned. No substitutions for fries. Our waitress disappeared after order taken so it was hard to get the check.

We also got good grouper and potato soup from a St. Pete Beach bar/grill one block off Gulf Blvd behind PJ's seafood. Wish I could remember the name.

Leverock's has several locations with seafood selection located right on inland waterway (Passe A Grille area) where you can watch boats and wildlife. Can be a family place, or a special event, or a seniors locale. Used to take my family there every year for our final Florida meal when we vacationed on Madeira Beach. Clean & good service. Reasonably priced without being fancy or too basic. Can dress up or casual or beach.

FYI Smitty, Joan is the owner of that innocuous little seafood shop she so glowingly recommended, and in such minute detail too. She was taken to task here on Fodor's for ignoring their "no advertising" rules, so now she pretends she's just an average resident who happens to like the place, lol! Same can be said of her bad-mouthing her competition. Pay no attention to her and or her many aliases here, trying to steer you away from one place and toward another. Choose for yourself when you get there.
