St Louis - Italian Restaurant on the Hill

We are making our annual trip to St Louis to see the Cardinals. We have dinner reservations for one night at Niche, but because of the schedule we are going to be able to eat dinner another night. It has been a long time since we had the 'perfect Italian dinner' on the Hill. What do you recommend?

Any other restaurant ideas are also appreciated.

Thanks

The best Italian on the Hill is not really on the Hill, but close by.

Trattoria Marcella
3600 Watson Rd. St. Louis, MO 63109
314-352-7706

Their website seems to be down, but here is the Urban Spoon reviews.

I agree with the Trattoria Marcella suggestion. If you have problems getting a reservation, we also like LoRusso's Cucina (Tenderloin Mudega) and Bartolino's (Veal Saltimbocca).

Zia's is also a good choice on the HIll.

Zia's
5256 Wilson 63110

Also - YOu may want to try Cafe Napoli in Clayton. It is lighter and more of a contempory menu than most on the HIll.
I find the food at most of the Hill restaurnats very heavy. It seems so many dishes serve with a heavy cream sauce and so much of everything is breaded.

Also, Bar Italia in the Central WEst End is good. They have a great courtyard to dine on. We have always have had good luck there - not far from the HIll.

Have Fun!

Cunetto's on the Hill is a long time popular restaurant. They don't take reservations, but the portions are generous and the food is good. Very family oriented and a favorite for generations. For more upscale dining...try Charlie Gittos, which is also very popular. They have a downtown restaurant, too. Enjoy!
