Hi everyone! I'm hoping you can help me remember the name of a restaurant I ate breakfast at in downtown St. Louis 10 years ago. Our hotel recommended it at the time... It's a little diner - you can sit at one of the maybe 12 tables or up at the counter. The grill is right there and you can watch them cook. I seem to remember that all of the menu items were titled with "old-fashioned greasy spoon" names - like old-time waitresses would have yelled to the cooks back in the 50's/60's.
Can anyone help???

I live in St. Louis and honestly I don't know of any places like that. But I will throw a few diner names your way and maybe one of them will be it:

City Diner
The Buttery
Eat Rite
Courtesy Diner

I do not know either. I asked a few people as well.

Uncle Bills is a great place for breakfast( south city) - it is rather old fashioned and has the best pancakes and serves the most bacon or sausage than any other restaurant in STL!!!

There is a place called the Eat-Rite diner. Coudl this be it??

It is supposed to be very good...I have never been there because there are excellent breakfast places near me.

You're probably thinking of a diner downtown on Pine St. called "Chili Mac's". It used to be called "O.T. Hodges". They're famous for the Slinger. It's a hamburger patty, 2 eggs (fried or scrambled), and fried potatoes covered in chili.

dford - it sounds like a heart attack ready to happen!! But it sounds good!!

I remember I had a chili cheese omelet with fries at Camelia Grill in New Orleans that was delicious after a night out on the town!!!! This was in college!!! I still think about it!!

Leigh, it might be helpful to know where you stayed last time, and if you walked to the diner from the hotel, or if you drove.

Did they serve ice cream and malts? Does anyone know if Crown Candy serves breakfast? (I've only had ice cream there).

We stayed at the hotel which is now the Millenium (the tall, round one downtown). The hotel desk person recommended the breakfast spot and we did walk there...
I'm trying to remember if OT Hodges sounds familiar.....................
