Spy Museum in Washington DC
Hello. I'll be in DC soon and am considering a trip to the Spy Museum since I've visited the other attractions previously.
Can anyone tell me if its worth the trip or something to skip.
Thanks in advance.

We thought it was fantastic and very intriguing! Plan to go about 2 PM as it will take you easily 2 or more hours as you will want to enjoy all the fun technology and videos. Have dinner at the adjoining restaurant, Zola after. It opens about 5pm, right after the museum closes. Very chic and a relaxing and fun way to end the day,
the food is great and the whole experience is fantastic!

I woudl suggest goign early in the a.n. when they open. The spy museum gets very crowded. It was built in an existing old bldg. and the rooms are very small. So it can feel claustrophobic if it is crowded. My in-laws went at 9 a.m. on a Sunday and had the place to themselves for a few hours. much better than what I did- I went at 11 a.m. and it was packed. It's fun, very different from the other DC museums.

It was OK - my husband and 17 year old son enjoyed it a great deal - my daughter (13) and I were bored before they were ready to leave. Very crowded. More historical spy stuff than "how to spy" things. Most interactive exhibits were too crowded to even get close to. (But we were there in mid-afternoon in summer - probably peak time)
Since it is privately run, one of few places in DC for which there is an admission charge.

We loved it (a little overwheleming for the 8 year old). Get your tickets ahead of time (I think you can get them online) or you will be in line for a long time. Accept the fact that it will be crowded, but it was really interesting and worth it.....and we waited in line for 1.5 hours.

I just visited the museum with 175 8th graders. I thought it was very well done (from what I got to see of it). I spent most of my time herding the kids but plan on going back on my next trip to DC which should be soon since my husband just got transferred there.
Incidentally one of the teachers that I work with found it very much "propegandized" and viewed it as a recruitment site for future spies. I can't say i totally disagree with her but my fascination with spies (especially the famous ones) got the better of my and I really enjoyed it.
The funniest thing are the g-men looking types outside--right out of central casting!
