We're thinking about spending a night or two in Springfield for our anniversary and would like some ideas of what to do. We're pretty laid back and in our late 20's early 30's. So any good casual bar or club recomendations would be appreciated. Also any fun things that aren't run of the mill. Thanks a bunch!!

Springfield where? Illinois? Mass.? If Illinois, not much to do so I hope its Mass. or another Springfield.

Only thing I can think of in Springfield MA is the basketball hall of fame.

There's lots to do in Springfield MA if you have 40 minutes! I think there must be a Springfield in almost every state!

In Springfield MA is Mulberry Street, which inspired Theodore Geisel to write/draw about what he saw there, under pen name Dr. seuss. The house was torn down a number of years ago to make room for a doctor or dentists parking lot, or I would have written "50 minutes" above.

There's an enormous Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, MO.

I recall hearing once that there's a Springfield in every state...so you need to narrow the field for us!

You could go to Moe's Tavern in Springfield. Say hi to Homer and Barney for me.

Brandi - This is a common misconception, but here's the thing: You can post under the search topic "Illinois" but it's not a separate forum. Many of us just head to the US forum, where we can see all posts. There is nothing there that tells us what search headings were used.

Give it a try - go to the main "travel talk" page and just click "US". You'll see a huge list of posts. Open yours (or any of them) and you'll see that it's impossible to tell that a particular state or states were chosen when the post was made.

Hence, the confusion . . .

I was afraid of that-As an Illinoisan I feel I can say that our state capital is a sad representative of this state and well, a dump. There is a mall on the west side of town with your typical chains but I personally think their is more to offer in Bloomington, Champaign or even Peoria.

I think the Lincoln sites in Springfield, IL are pretty neat. You can explore Old Salem outside of town. There is a great Italian restaurant, Saputo's, that is downtown-perfect for a anniversary dinner, although not much privacy. Decent wine, but open rooms.

Here's from someone now retired in the Missouri Springfield who grew up in the Illinois Springfield and used to live in good old Peoria. Really not up on the scene regarding entertainment for an anniversary celebration for laid back young adults, but I'm sure you'll find a nice night spot. Actually, I'd need to get in touch with my high school girl friend who knows Spfld IL better than I do, but then she lives in Indianapolis. But I do find it a little amusing that anyone was actually expecting someone to recommend a fun place that isn't run of the mill in any of the Springfields as if you were talking about Chicago, St. Louis, or
such! I'll be looking for somebody else to response for my own info.

One of the folks here on Fordors put me on to the Springfield regional dish - the horse shoe. It consists of three slices of toast, topped with meat (hamburger, spicy chicken, ham, others), covered with French fries and drenched in beer cheese sauce. A small one is known as a pony shoe.

I was in Springfield for a convention in November and was disappointed to discover that many of the attractions that interested me were not open on the weekend.
