Spring in Asheville then to Savannah
Taking my mother on a trip this Spring (we are not sure when to go--flexible) Want to hit Biltmore/Asheville on way to Savannah. We basically have 7 days to go this. Looking for advice. Looking for beautiful places, gardens, reasonable B&Bs, walking tours, bike tours. Give me your advice/opinions.

I too am confused. I can't imagine coming and going from Iowa in less that two days each way. Does that mean you have a total of three days to divide between Asheville and Savannah including the drive between them? Or did you mean you have 7 days in addition to the getting there and the heading back home?

actually 4 to peoria, ill then leaving the am of next morning. And it is actually more like 9 days total. I calculated getting to Asheville late and spending the whole next day there. Driving from there to Savannah.

It may not be very springlike in Asheville in late March. That is no reason not to go there, but it is up high enough that it will be very early spring indeed.
Have you considered Charleston and Savannah instead?

It isn't out of the way to stop in Asheville, and it is worth a visit to Biltmore, etc. Savannah adds another amount of driving as opposed to Charleston, which is always my preference anyway. And returning is a full 3 day drive from the SC coast. Block out your driving days (don't forget the Asheville-Savannah 6 boring hours).

is it worth it to stay at one of the hotels at the property. I am not shelling out $400 to stay in the biltmore, but...wondered about staying on the property the night we arrive, pop right to the estate in am. And then has thinking of staying at the Highland Lake Inn the following night.

I looked up the Inn--I'm sure it is lovely. I'm not sure I see the benefit of staying in a lovely resort place (and very close to Asheville instead of your Savannah destination) for a quick overnight. By that time you will have spent 3 of your (now ) 9 days. You have a very full 3 day drive back to Iowa, so you now have 3 days to get to Savannah and see it--including a pretty long day's drive from Hendersonville. So make it 2.5 days. And no stop in charleston.
From Asheville you could actually drive to Charleston for the night and at least see something and be in the vicinity of Savannah. At least that is my computation of your drive times.

I have toooooo much information. I have everything planned except for a place to stay the night before and after touring the Biltmore. We will leave for Savannah the next morning.
Didn't see much here so I am going off of tour books and internet.
