Spray-on deoderant - a security no-no?

I'll be in the US in August for 4 weeks. I've been warned it'll be hot and we will be doing a lot of city walking. In these situations I generally like to carry spray-on deoderant in my bag. However, given the heightened security for entering certain sites, especially in NYC, is spray-on deoderant on any banned lists?

Not that I'm aware of. You probably can't have it in your checked luggage if it's larger than 3.2oz., since it most likely counts as a liquid, but other than that, spray away.

I've visited a lot of sights in NYC and have never encountered that sort of security. The Met will peek in your p=bag, but I suspect that the only spray cans they'd care about would be paint. To get more personal, you might want to consider using a product that is an antiperspirant rather than just a deodorant.

Anonymous, most (or at least many) spray deodorants ARE anti-perspirants as well. Calling the product just a deodorant, probably doesn't mean the speckles isn't using an anti-perspirant.

I think you can't take a can of deodorant any larger than 3.2oz in your *carry on*, but a larger can is allowed in your checked luggage. Check the TSA website for details.

Air travelers may carry liquids, gels and aerosols in their carry-on bag when going through security checkpoints.

The following rules apply to all liquids, gels, and aerosols carried through security checkpoints.

All liquids, gels and aerosols must be in three-ounce or smaller containers. Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. Each container must be three ounces or smaller.
All liquids, gels and aerosols must be placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. Gallon size bags or bags that are not zip-top such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed. Each traveler can use only one, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag.
Each traveler must remove their quart-sized plastic, zip-top bag from their carry-on and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.

On the other hand, I've heard that it is possible to actually buy these products right in New York rather than carrying them with you.

Patrick, the reason that I mentioned antiperspirant is that otherwise I don't understand why the OP would need to reapply during the day; but perhaps that's just too personal.

Anon, because I feel the heat and we will be walking a lot in August. I keep getting warned how hot it will be in NYC, Vegas and DC at that time of year. I probably over-apply, but I'd rather do that than under-apply.

Is the Statue of Liberty likely to be any stricter with bags than anywhere else? I've heard the security lines are long and they even go as far as doing some sort of chemical check, which slows everything down. We're considering pre-booking a pedestal tour.

When we visited the Statue of Liberty in 2005 there was a long line for security. They had put in "sniffers" that looked like airline security but blew a puff of air that searched for chemicals somehow. It was the strictest security I've ever been through. NO food (even gum) was allowed. If you think you will want to do the pedastal tour you should reserve now.

I appreciate people like Speckles; there are a lot of people who need to wear more deoderant.
