spending money for hawiian vacation??

My husband and I are planning a two week stay on the Hawaiin Island in October and we aren't sure how much spending money will be needed for food and fun.

Hi Clairvoyant, thank you!!! How did you come up with your total? I want to make sure that we don't have to worry about spending, but I don't want to run out of money half way through our trip.

Pamm,
There are ATM's all over so if you have an ATM card...you won't run out of money.

Pamm,
That's easy. Carefully budget the maximum you can afford per day. Your actual expenses will be about twice that.

Pammmmmmmm,

What island? What do you like to do, want to see, types of meals,
style /location of your lodging ?

Believe it or not, there are price diff. not only between islands but in diff areas on each island, i.e. like on Kauai, you can buy a pair of a certain brand of shorts for $28 in Kapaa while the same shorts go for $35 in Poipu because it attracts a "higher end" crowd.
Same with meals at restaurants.
Let us know.
Mahalo,
Kal

If you are going to Maui, plan on spending a fortune for everything. But even with the high prices we enjoyed it tremendously.

No one can tell you that, Pamm, because everyone's habits are so different. (One person will eat breakfast at Burger King, and another at their hotel buffet for $24.00!) Plan to spend approximately the same there as you would here on the mainland on a vacation - unless you're going to stay in a condo and buy groceries there, which will be about 30% more than here. All other expenses are such an individual thing!

Hi pamm we are going to the isles in nov for 3 weeks 3 isles oahu, hawaii,& maui. It will vary greatly depending on what you like to do hiking, biking etc are cheap but if you want to take snorkel trips, helocopters, submarines etc it will be a lot more expensive & if you eat out all the time other than fast food this to will cost quite a bit more as for us we are planning 250-350 per day spending $$$ for 2. We have not been there yet but don't want to skimp & not enjoy ourselves. Have fun your on vacation.

Pamm,
We visited Kauai, Maui, and Oahu in April. I think we brought about $400 in cash and used our ATM card to get another $1200 the rest of the trip (just checked the bank statement). We charged a few things like a Napili boat cruise ($100 each), the helicopter ride (~$140 each) and gas for the car.

On Kauai we ate at very nice restaurants every night (Roy's, A Pacific Cafe), my husband and I had drinks but no wine and spent ~$150 per night for dinner and dessert. On Maui we shared a condo with friends and grilled fresh fish a lot, we all ate well for what it would have cost for one of us at a nice restaurant. We shopped at Safeway on Maui, their shopper's card saved us a lot of money (usually $30-40 off a $200 bill). There were 5 of us on Maui so we were buying a lot of food and liquor. We ate all breakfasts at the condo, which saved quite a bit too.

Beaches and most parking are free, snorkel gear will run about $20-30 per week. Our lunches ran anywhere from $10-25 for the 2 of us, we never did any fancy lunches.

We are going again next year, and will probably figure about $2000-3000 for 2 weeks.
