Special summer hotel deals in NYC?

Last summer someone posted a special CODE for terrific summer rates at many decent NYC hotels. I used it to book a room at The London. I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any such promo this summer. Last summer's promo was very much under-the-radar, as the Reservations people at The London knew nothing about it, but were happy to look into it, & naturally came up with the goods. tia

It's the law of supply and demand. In previous years, the summer has been slow in NYC with people preferring beach destinations. This year, all bets are off. With the continued slump of the dollar vs. other currency, NYC is flooded with tourists. It's also a bit late for summer '08.

All that said, there are some specials on travelzoo.com

Ontheave-ny.com is running a special thru Labor Day.

Clarin,
I don't know about a code but coincidentally, my sister is staying at the London in a couple of weeks and she got a very good rate (total for 3 nights $1000). She just made her reservations recently. When I looked at the website, it said something about a $249 special but I don't know any of the details.

mclaurie: Thanks, I'm looking into your ideas.

goddesstogo: Ah yes, your sister's upcoming trip. I read your prior entry about the great deal she received, but I couldn't find anything about it on their site. The closest they come is an offering of $299, but that's just for the evening of 8/24, & I'm heading down this week. I guess I could knock myself out & give them a call. Thanks for your help.

Have you considered using Priceline? Plenty of reported wins in the $175-250 range.

I've never seen a hotel on Priceline, at that price point, that I was interested in, though I appreciate the suggestion.

Here's a deal from the official NYC tourism website that includes The London
" With the Signature Collection Third Night™ program, from July 1 to September 1, 2008 you can receive a complimentary third night at one of the world-class hotels listed below. "

Really? Have you checked out the win calendar on betterbidding.com? $150 for the Millenium Hilton, $175 for the Westin?

You should also check quikbook.com for your dates. They sometimes have good weekend deals on the Gild Hotel, Duane st., 6 Columbus;all new, trendy places.

Allow me to clarify: I see how that could be misread/misunderstood. I did not mean there are never decent hotels at that price point. I meant I've never seen any in the *particular area(s) that I like to stay*. Also, I'm not partial to large, chain-type places.

In any case, I'm now going to check out betterbidding & quikbook to see what's up with those sites. Thank you!

Betterbidding is merely a website for help with Priceline and Hotwire. I agree PL tends to focus on the larger hotels, but I've seen good wins for places like Morgans and 70 Park on Priceline. Both happen to be 4* hotels in what's now known as the Empire state building area (previously midtown south).

According to biddingfortravel's list, the London is one of Priceline's hotels in the Midtown West zone. Unfortunately, the list never includes info about WHEN any hotel was awarded via PL.

OK, so I snagged a room at an alleged 4-star hotel for $200 w/Priceline. Le Parker Meridien has a terrific location though it receives decidedly mixed reviews on TripAdvisor. (The word "tired" comes up a lot.) In any case, I appreciate the advice from everyone, and frankly, for $200 I'm not expecting 4 stars.

And the good news is (although I haven't eaten there, just heard it on these forums), the burger place in the Parker Meridien is supposed to be fabulous.

We used to stay at LPM all the time (I have no idea why -- I guess we were richer then) but lately it's been too expensive for us. It's a great location and the breakfast place is supposed to be good but I have to say that based on the website pics, I don't care for the way they've redecorated it.

Price-wise, I think you got a good deal, though.
