I will be in the charlotte area sometime in April which will be a weekend trip. I know that Spartanberg is approximately 1 hour to 1 Hour and 30 min by car and bus. The only day I will be able to go to Spartanberg is for Sunday which will be one day. I noticed that alot of the museums are open from mon- Sat and are closed on Sundays. Is there any one who has been there or lives there that can recomment what to do for someone who is only going to be in the area on sunday only. Is it a nice place or boring. Once again I will be in Charlotte in April on the weekend. And the only time I can go to Spartanburg is for a sunday. Does anyone have any recommendations if there is anything to do there on Sundays being that most museums are closed. Thanks.

Why is it you want to go to Spartanburg in particular? There are other things to do in Charlotte.

The art museum in Greenville is open on Sundays and even has special events on Sundays -

According to the website, their Wyeth collection is currently closed. I went years ago and it was wonderful. Check the website to see the other exhibits that are open.

Downtown Greenville is really nice. A great place to walk around, shop, eat, etc -

Actually i been to charlotte a couple of times before, i just though since im in the area I should check out spartanberg being that it is close by.

Starrs rec of Greenville is good. It's too bad the Wyeth collection is closed--maybe on tour, Starrs?
Another nice visit is Winston Salem and LOTs to do at Old Salem.
If you are into wineries, there are good ones north and west of Charlotte, but not sure about Sunday openings in that part of NC.
AND perhaps Charlotte has opened at least 4 new museums since your last visit, notably the Bechtler and the new Mint downtown. You might not need to leave town at all.
There is also the Museum of History and the Hezekiah Alexander house, and Latta Plantation.

Since you bring up "downtown Greenville Ohio", be it known that this is where KitchenAid mixers are made, and they have a good outlet store!! Also a wonderful old mill nearby that sells stone ground flour and other cool kitchen type things. It's a bit far from Charlotte, however!!

I don't have any specific reason to steer AWAY from Spartanburg. I just don't know much to recommend in Spartanburg. They've just a very nice job with Downtown Greenville and it's a great place to stroll, eat, shop. The sushi restaurant is good and the tapas restaurant is VERY good. http://www.thecazbah.com/locations

Great idea. I was going to suggest it, but am also pretty sure they are largely closed on Sunday. Also, pack a lunch!! There is not much in the way of eateries in the area, including Seagrove. They will have replenished their wares by then from the Christmas sellout.

Gretchen, I started clicking on the list last night and only found one (out of about six) open on Sundays. I'd be discouraged on a Sunday. But, truly, driving around that area and stopping in small, family owned potteries is a WONDERFUL way to spend a day. You are driving through a very rural, although beautiful area, and it's fun to see what's around the next corner. It reminds me of driving around Sonoma, stopping in at random small wineries. It's my favorite way to "do" the wine country. Stopping by the potters is just as much fun.

Sidetrack to Gretchen - have you ever been to Park Seed in Greenwood in the spring? I never have but always wanted to. I'd love to walk around their trial gardens.
