I cannot wait to see Spamalot! My family and I are going to get tickets for Memorial weekend. I'd love to hear back from anyone who sees it, either at the World Premiere in Chicago, or in NYC. Honestly, I'll still get tickets whether it gets good or bad reviews because I just love Hank Azaria. Agador Spartacus is absolutely one of the funniest characters in a movie (favorite scene - Agador vacumming while singing "She Works Hard for the Money"). I'll probably also get tickets for La Cage Aux Folles, although it sounds slightly different from the movie the Birdcage.

We have tickets for the first week of January (Chicago). I'll be happy to report back afterward...

kcapuani - this show does not start previews in NYC until February with opening night scheduled for March 17. So I doubt we'll get any NY reviews for a while, but I to am interested in hearing from anyone who sees it in Chicago.

The cast of Spamalot is really fantastic- not only the male leads, but some of the supporting cast. For example, Sara Ramirez was at Williamstown Theatre Festival this summer, and has a phenomenal voice! I look forward to seeing her on stage again.

Also, yes, La Cage is different from the Birdcage, though based on the same story (and equally enjoyable). The music is great, and it is definitely a show worth seeing.

Saw it December 26 with family. We all loved it. The three leads are very good, and Sara Ramirez as the Lady of the Lake is terrific as well. I'm not as much of a Monty Python authority as much of the audience appeared to be: certain bits elicited cheers and applause as soon as they got underway.

Went to see Spamalot yesterday, fans of the movie will recognize quite a bit (some of the dialogue is verbatim)-the French taunters, the Knights who say Ni, the Black Knight, and the killer rabbit all make appearances in their original form. But there are also many added musical numbers that keep this from being just a stage version of the movie, including a very funny bit with David Hyde Pierce which I won't spoil for you and a funny jab at Andrew Lloyd Weber.

I didn't find it to be side splitting laughing funny but plenty of laughs were to be found. And although I'm a big fan of Tim Curry, I found his performance to be the weakest of the lot. Hank Azaria was superb in his many roles and David Hyde Pierce was quite good as was the female lead, Sara Ramirez. The actors who played Sir Galahad and Prince Herbert also turned in great performances.

I imagine that the script will be a work in progress since Chicago is the warmup for Broadway and it's still early in the Chicago run.

If Maggi is still tuning in to this thread, definitely rent the movie first, it will add to your enjoyment of the play.

Thanks for the review, Kristi. Yes I am avidly watching this thread. I do have the DVD now and I am finding out that Monty Python is not really my kind of humor. I'm going to keep watching the movie until I "get it", so as to enhance my enjoyment of the musical. I am a huge David Hyde Pierce and Hank Azaria fan, which is why I got our tickets in the first place.

I saw it today, and it was very funny. This has been a difficult ticket to get in Chicago. I thought Tim Curry, David Hyde Piece and Hank Azaria all did a fine job. I was very impressed with Sara Ramirez in her role as Lady of the Lake. What a beautiful voice!

Maggi, I fear that if you don't "get" the Monty Python humor at the first watching, re-watching is only going to make you hate it. But I hope I'm wrong.

Also I suggest if you're going to see La Cage, you might want to rent the French movie version that the musical was based on -- much more similar than Birdcage. It is usually available at Blockbuster and elsewhere either dubbed or with subtitles.

Chicgal do you mean "Now For Something Completely Different" or the two disk "Monty Python Live"? I use Netflix so I can rent practically anything.

Hope to catch the Saturday night fireworks on the Chicago river. We'll be staying at the Amalfi and eating at Roy's and our favorite, Le Colonial. Lucky you, living in/near such a great city.
