souveneir gifts
My husband and I would like to bring home some special gifts from Hawaii for the family. Any suggestions on ideas and where to get them in Kauai?
Also, does anyone know about shipping fresh pineapples or taking them on your flight back home?
Thank you for your time and suggestions.

14 years ago on our honeymoon on Kauai, I mailed home a painted coconut "postcard", on its own, not in a box. We pickout the painted coconut, used a felt pen to address it on the back and they stuck on some postage. Cool!! My mother still has it!
I also sent a case of pineapples home. Got them at the airport. They are inspected for pests, so are OK to bring home.
Hawaiian shirts for Hilo Hattie's.
You will find lots of things to buy, easy.

Walmart is the souvenir headquarters on Kauai, LOL.
For upscale gifts, unique gifts: plenty of cute places to browse in Hanalei. I personally do not like the Kukui Grove SHopping Center in Lihue for shopping but I do like the Kauai Products Store there.
The coconuts as mentioned above are fun to mail home. There are some shops that sell already- painted coconuts, very cute.
Pineapples not fun to lug home. Kauai isn't reknown for pineapples like Maui and Oahu are.

We were on Kauai in March, and found that Walmart has the best souvenir prices. They also had the best prices on Kauai products, coffee, jellies, cookies, etc. We also found some cute coconut bracelets at a neat little shop in Hanalei.
And of course, we picked up a few items at Hilo Hattie's. A really good author, Mary Syreen, was having a book signing the day we were in there. Her books are very good.
For a really grand souvenir for yourself, go to Kahn Galleries and select a reproduction on canvas by Andrew Wishard, a wonderful artist that has a beautiful new print out called "Before There Were People".

Kona coffee! (I love the stuff and just ordered a bunch more online), Kauai coffee (there's a plantation on Kauai with a gift shop), macadamia nuts, Hawaiian shirts or Hawaiian print fabric for those who sew, regional cookbooks, Crazy Shirts, etc.
For inexepensive gifts head for Walmart and Hilo Hattie.
For that special something, you might want to check out Wyland prints/paintings or inlay jewelry by Kabana (whale tails, dolphins, turtles, etc).
Aloha!

I would like to send some pineapples home from Maui. Where should I go to do this? I don't want to lug them over to Kauai for the tail end of our trip.
Also, where can you find the painted coconuts on Maui? I would like to send a few of those home as well.
Lastly, any recommendations for a good florist on Maui??
Thanks!!!!

I think you can buy the pineapples at the airport to have shipped back. You will see plenty of places selling them throughout Hawaii..so just ask.
We found the painted cocunuts in Hana. It was nice because there was also a post office next door, so we addressed the coconut & then sent it off right away. Also got a picture with the coconut and post master.

I bought my pinapples at the airport in Honolulu on the way home. They put them on the plane for you. No lugging around. I bought the painted coconut at a roadside stand on Kauai. I'm sure you will find them throughout the islands.
Good luck!!

All the suggestions are good but no one has mentioned the ABC stores. They have terrific gifts at really good prices. I manage to stop at one at least 3 or 4 times each vacation and end up buying stuff. They are all over all the islands and really worth a look.

The lei/flower shop in the lobby of the Lihue airport usually has pineapples avaiable to take home. Or you can place an order there and the pineapples will be shipped. However, these are not Kauai pineapples, they are "imported" from Oahu.

I just returned from Kauai on April 12. I too wanted to bring pineapples home, but I didn't see them for sale at the airport. Best gifts are coffee, macadamian nuts, Kauai cookies/jams/etc. Also the homemade soap from the soap & candle factory. Yes, Walmart has really good prices.

Don't think there is much difference between Oahu and Kauai pineapples. It's just that pineapples are not commercially grown on Kauai anymore but occasionally you can find Kauai-grown pineapples a a local farmers market. These probably wont be certified to take home.
There are not piles of pineapples openly visible in the Lihue Airport, you have to ask the lady at the lei shop. SOmetimes the pineapples are in the cooler, sometimes they are none available. If they are sold out, she can order them for you and have them shipped.
