We need more information to give you good suggestions. What are your budgets for hotel and restaurants? How long are you planning your trip to be, and is there any particular reason you chose those cities over others? (Did something in them pique your interest, or is it purely for family visits/etc?) What are your general interests?

This trip is just for pleasure. Interested in southern culture, good music and food. Nashville and Memphis for the music, Oxford, MS (Home of William Faulkner) Jackson,MS,I have heard some good things about the town.
We will probably be spending a week between these places.
From what I have heard and read, Hampton Inns, Embassy Suites would be in our price range. Would probably splurge on the meals.

OK - what's your definition of "splurge," though? One person's is $25 for an entree, but another's is hundreds of dollars for a full dinner.
A week seems like a very short time to fit in four cities. I think you'll be spending a lot of time on the road.
I can help most with Nashville. Are you more interested in the country music things, or in hearing what's around town now? Though it's the home of country, there's just as much (if not more) live rock, pop, and Americana in the venues around town. I'd visit the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Ryman Auditorium for sure (try and see a show at the Ryman if there's anyone playing that you're interested in - it's my favorite venue ever). Actually, if you're here in the winter, the Grand Ole Opry will probably be housed at the Ryman - it's at the Opry House (northeast of downtown) most of the year, but moves to the Ryman in the winter. The Bluebird Cafe is a very well-known venue which emphasizes singer/songwriters. There are tons of other places around town to hear music.
In Nashville I'd stay either downtown or in the Vanderbilt/West End area. There's a Hampton Inn around Vanderbilt and I'm pretty sure there's one downtown as well; there's also a Vanderbilt Embassy Suites.
Here are a couple of other threads where a lot of the information will overlap with your questions:
