South Florida post-cruise ideas?

We're trying to decide what to do with few post-cruise days around Ft. Lauderdale. We like to explore, would like somewhere fairly quiet, near or on beach where we can relax for our last 2-3 days of vacation. Don't want to spend too much. Thought about driving down the keys, staying somewhere along the way, prefer not to stay in Key West proper. Lodging recommendations? Should we stay in FLL area? don't really want to stay or play in Miami... prefer more off the beaten track if possible. Any help or ideas appreciated. Thanks.

If a beach is important to you, you'd be better off staying near Ft. Lauderdale. The keys are coral, so all the beaches there are man-made with imported sand. They're very small.

Peg,
Fort Lauderdale is lots of fun. We took our family there for a week a couple of summers ago. There is plenty to do to keep you busy, or as little to do as you want to. We spent our days laying on the beach and taking in the ocean, then in the later afternoon/early evening we would head out to shop, eat out, take in a movie etc. We loved the Radisson Bahia Mar hotel. It is located right on A1A with a cross walk to the beach. I'm sure you would have a great time.

Peg:
I like the FLL area but I prefer a liitle north like Deerfield or Delray Beach. Sea Bonay and Ocean Club are right on the beach both have a kitchen if thats waht you want. I don't know what days you will be there but Deerfield has "dancing under the stars" to live music right in the street (A1A) on Tuesday or Wednesday nights. The beach is clean and the water comfortable. Have fun!!

Hi -- thanks for the ideas. Liveby, I like the idea of going a bit north, though we may still just stay in FLL (seems easiest, and sounds like there's lots to do there). Can anyone suggest a good website for info on this area? Seems all I see is info on Miami/FLL/Keys. Thanks again.
