South Florida Food In Fort Lauderdale

We will have one pre-cruise evening in Fort Lauderdale and would like to sample some South Florida food. I've heard of Conch Chowder and Key lime Pie...sound Yummy. Can you name a fun and casual restuarant where we might sample the local cuisine?

Kelley, there's no such thing as a formal restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale, so any place you go will be casual. My suggestion for a good restaurant that uses lots of local ingredients would be Mark's Las Olas. Mark's is on Las Olas Blvd., a very good street for evening strolling pre- and post dinner.

Kelley,

Las Olas is a great place to go if you have only one evening. There are lots of restaurants to chose from such as Mango's, and Noodle Panini. There is also a cute little cafe with seating in a little courtyard in the back, I can't remember the name though.

There are some restaurants on A1A with nice views of the beach. I would check those out too. However, stay away from H20. We ate there a few weeks ago and it was a disaster (over an hour wait for overcooked salmon!).

Go to the Riverfront area. Lots of great restaurants and HUGE yachts just drifting by. pretty cool!

Thanks for the info. Is the Riverfront the same as the Intercoastal...Can you name a couple of restaurants there?

Kelley, everyone is pretty much talking about the same area. Try following this link: http://maps.yahoo.com/py/pmap.py?Pyt...=7&name=&desc=.

If that doesn't work, go to Yahoo Map and type in 33301, which is downtown Ft. Lauderdale.

Las Olas Blvd. is what passes for "old" in South Florida, dating as it does to the 1940s. It runs roughly a mile from Federal Highway (U.S. 1) to the ocean, and the four or so blocks just to the east of downtown Ft. Lauderdale anchor a large number of shops and restaurants. They're open late, typically until midnight, and the area is very pedestrian-friendly. "The riverfront" refers to the New River, about two blocks south of East Las Olas, which has a very pleasant walk with the aforementioned yachts there for the ogling.

The Port Everglades cruiseport is about two miles south; due east of the Ft. Lauderdale airport.
