South Beach Activities

We (college-aged guys) are going to be in South Beach and then Key West for a week over Spring Break. What is there to see and do in South Beach and Key West??

Are the nightclubs in Miami open every day of the week? Or are they limited to the weekends? Also, any suggestions of good ones would be appreciated.

What is there to do during the day besides hang at the beach in and around Miami? We will have a car, so day trips are within reason, so if anybody has anything fun to do during the daytime in South Florida, let me know.

And finally, what are some good stops along Route 1 to Key West?

Thanks

There always seems to be some planned activity on the beach.. when we were there we saw a pro volleyball tourney, a huge fitness fair, some fashion stuff, and some concerts sponsored by booze companies... you should check the south beach web sites for a schedule....
besides that there's tons of prowling for babes... not just college girls, but models... even your gay friend will drool..

On the way to Key west, you have to stop at the world famous TIKI bar at Holiday Isle... also a great stop if you want to do a fishing trip... have fun boys!

From my own (limited) SoBe research everything is open every night! Hoping to learn more from this post.

We are staying at the Clevelander, and it is supposed to be a very hot bar scene (open until 5am), and their website has events listed for almost every night of the week. Friends tell me to be prepared to have dinner after the beach, then nap and don't think about going out until 11 or later...

When are you going dockruins? I'm there the 31st of March for 5 nights with just-out-of-college-aged girls, lol.

PS - In KW make sure you go to Mallory SQ for the sunset - its an entire carnival of activities.

The South Beach club scene, although a bit past its "Use By" date, is still a seven-days-a-week thing. Clubs stay open until 5 AM, although after-hours parties do exist. This website has a pretty good rundown of the Scene:

The Clevelander is a dump, if you must know. It definitely has the corner on drunken frat boys and sorority Girls Gone Wild, but its bar scene has a slightly pathetic air to it (and the rundown hotel itself doesn't help). A little like Mango's down the street-- prepackaged Hot, Hot Bar Entertainment for the rube tourists. But they're popular, so what the heck.

Thanks for the warning rjw... I didn't read any truly negative reviews, and the hotel is now sold out for our dates... What sold us on it was the pool, with the beach across the street.

We 'splurged' for the xtra large room, so I'll be certain to post how it was...

Pick up a copy of the New Times or one of the other free papers that can be found all around on South Beach. There are lots of clubs and the paper will tell you where to hang out. Check out Lincoln Road, lots of nice restaurants. Ocean drive is more of a scene for restaurants and bars. "Nicki Beach" is on Collins and First Street and a good bar to start your cruising.

The drive down to Key West is great. On Key Largo there is a excellent place to go snorkeling called John Pennycamp State park. It is an underwater state park and there are lots of places on the road advertising "Best boat to John Pennycamp!" along Route 1. It costs about $35 and they supply the equipment. If it is sunny and not too windy the water is perfectly clear. Lots of tropical fish and corals.

You should check out this website that I came across. It's called SuperTour. You can view hotels and virtually walk through them and the surrounding areas. Not only does it display hotels but you can view restaurants, bars, clubs, the beach, etc. all in relation to where you're staying. I found it helpful while planning my vacation to Miami.

Check it out! www.supertour.com

Hey dock ruins! I am also going to south beach and key west in the near future. Will you by any chance be going to the Dry Tortugas? I hear they have some grat snorkeling thre.

As far as south beach activities, I have heard that Clubs Space and Nocturnal are both great places at night, has anyone been to either of these?
