Patti, I didn't stay at the Ritz (it actually wasn't there when I was in Maui), but I did stay at Kapalua Bay Villas. Personally, I think that is the best part of Maui. It's not as crowded - and it's so easy to get around Maui anyway (be sure to rent a car!!), that you can get to Kaanapoli - or wherever - pretty easily. The one thing I remember is the gorgeous view every morning. Personally, I think you'll love it. There are beautiful beaches all over Maui and one thing I did was try to get to all of them. The best ones are not necessarily near the hotels....

Patti,
Especially if your trip is between now and the end of October, I think you'll love the cooler part of Maui, and what's "windy" to some is wonderfully breezy to others, like me, who are very heat sensitive. The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua is repeatedly named one of the top resorts in the world by all kinds of travel magazines, and I don't think you'll be disappointed. The brief rains are always followed by beautiful rainbows, and Kapalua is only about 10 minutes drive from Kaanapali-Lahaina, so you won't be too remote.
To sum it up, there isn't an area of Maui that I wouldn't love staying at, although my very favorite is Wailea. And you'll be in a Ritz-Carlton - how bad can it be??? Have a wonderful trip, and be sure to give us a trip report when you get back!

Hi Patty,
I stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Maui last year for my honeymoon and it was great!! It does get pretty breezy but if you bring a light sweater (yes, I know a sweater in Hawaii) you will be ok. Personally, I'm always cold, but like one of the previous posters said, some might feel it's breezy but other's might actually enjoy the breeze.
The Ritz is absolutely gorgeous. Your going to love it. The pool is beautiful and there is even a beach that is right off the Resort (you can't miss it). If you can, take advantage of the breakfast buffet. It is delicious. The staff was very helpful and the rooms are very spaceous. If you rent a car, you will not be far from all the other main attractions.
Have a great time. Post again and tell us how it went.

You'll love it! I've cut and pasted some thoughts after our last stay there.
We really enjoy the Ritz at Kapalua. It is in a beautiful area of Maui, and the grounds are spacious and relaxing. There is a bit of a walk to the beach(good for working off your meals), but once you get there, you are in a secluded cove, with no hotel roofline to infringe on the view. I recommend their Club level. Great service and food. Many 30-somethings enjoying themselves. For us the big draw at Kapalua is Honolua Bay, within walking distance to the hotel, with its protected marine life. We spent hours snorkeling. Since we live on Oahu, we enjoy getting away from crowds, and don't mind the occasional 30-second rain shower at Kapalua. Although Kapalua is wetter than Wailea, actual rainfall varies by year. This having been an "el niņo" winter, Hawaii never got a typical rainy winter and spring. Instead, we have had drought, and this summer has been much cooler and breezier than usual. If you want a beautiful rural setting, within a short driving distance to Lahaina for a change of pace, you just might enjoy Kapalua. Aloha!
