Roy,
I have not stayed at Wyndham, however, we have stayed at that Sofitel a couple of times. Nice hotel, nice rooms, good location for restaurants, night life, etc.. If you choose the Sofitel, see if you can get upgraded to one of the top floor rooms with a view of Woodland Hills. If they're willing to do that, it might make your decision a little easier.
PS I don't know if it's still true but this is a smoking hotel. Even with the current laws in California you may still encounter that. Just thought I'd let you know.

The Sofitel will put you in a nicer part of town w/ easier access to the touristy things you'll probably end up doing. Across the street from the Beverly Center shopping mall, 10 minutes from downtown Beverly Hills, 5 minutes to the Sunset Strip & 10 minutes to Hollywood, 20-25 minutes from Universal Studios.
