Snorkeling on Maui

Black Rock at the north end of Kaanapali Beach below the Sheraton is great. Napili and Kapalua bays are good, (small parking lots, get there early), Ulua Beach in Wailea has a spot if the ocean is calm, ditto crowded parking. At the south past Wailea where the road ends at Makena, there's a rocky place called Ahihi, I think. There is milemarker 14 between Kihei and Lahaina, may be called Olowalu. Pop into a dive shop when you get there and they can direct you. All these places I've mentioned are easy to get to as long as you have a car.

Best snorkel spots in Maui, excluding Molokini:
1. Honolua Bay -- swim out or rock hop over to the right side of the bay
2. Black Rock -- cool all the way around (except when there's strong currents) but the cove in the middle is a great spot
3. La Perouse Bay (Aquarium and Fishbowl) -- kayaking to these spots is much easier but if you do choose to hike to the Aquarium, always keep an eye out for the faint red-paint trail markers or you'll be walking over raw lava (not fun for very long)
