Slow Boat To The Rock
Well here is the tale.
Last Friday I flew PHX-HNL on the spur of the moment to meet my daughter and SIL to sail their new boat back to Kaua'i. The boat had a few defects that were supposed to be fixed (per agreement with seller) by last Fri. Nothing serious, but, definitely something that needs to be fixed before heading across Kaua'i Channel.
Well, they hadn't done it (the seller or brokerage)and discovered that a part that it had to have could only come from Virginia. The part got ordered. We flew to Kaua'i on Sunday to wait for the boat yard to get the darn thing fixed . DD and SIL went back to their respective gainful employments~o) on Monday while we wait. The part arrived at the boat yard late yesterday afternoon. They were working on it today so we are hoping to catch a flight back to HNL tomorrow afternoon or Thursday morning . If everything else goes alright this time, we can sail for the rock on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning[-o<. Any later than that and I will have to cancel my return flight to PHX, scheduled for Monday and cough up the hundred bucks to reschedule:-<. In the mean time, we wait..
AuntieM.........We can't get together this time, but I will still be back in mid to late March and we can get together with I'2 and hubby and any other Fodorites crazy enough to want to be in this chicken coop at that time.

Yeah, I'2. Life is getting real good about now\/. We are flying to HNL tomorrow morning(Thurs), and should sail from Honolulu to Waianae Friday at about noon. Then Saturday morning it's clear sailing to Kauai for us and the many dolphins that I know will come along.

jamalty, I am a season sailor and have done many deliveries.
The best piece of advice I can give you is to always fly with an open ended ticket because what you are experiencing is the norm not the exception.
I once spent four days in Biscayne Bay waiting on a marine grade widgit so we could continue on to Key West.
PS. Pack your clothes in waterproof containers (ziplock bags work great) because by the end of the sail, everything you own will be covered in damp salt water and you realize dry clean clothes are a luxury and not a right.
What a fantastic experienc you have ahead!
