Yes the Delta Skymiles Card is issued by American Express. There are several different AX cards. It is quite popular now and is being marketed very hard and had great acceptance due to the double points feature for many purchases..it is not double points for all purchases, rather for select purchases such as Airfare, Gasoline, Groceries, Postal Exp, Home Building supplies and things of this nature. And I believe there is a maximum amount of points that can be accumulated under the double feature proviso of the Delta Skymiles Card from AX. This is not the particular AX Card that I use. Regarding you queston about how is this differnet than the AX Memebership Reward Program..it isn't as I belieive the Delta Card and all other eleigible AX card fall under the baliwick of AX Rewards Program..and if I am not mistaken you need to call an sign up for it. and in some cases depending upon what AX card you have the Membership fee is $25. On some AX cards it is waived. It is still a great deal and I highly recommend it. Also, if I am not mistaken, when someone receives the Delta Skymiles AX Card..one automatically receives 10,000 or 15,000 points and ergo may already include memebership into the Reward Program. To the person who said that AX is not as widely accepted..yes you are right..I chose to maximize my points with one card and have chosen this one..and honestly the # of times I have traveled at home or abroad...and it is a lot. I have only had but a very few occasions that I could not use an AX card. Belelive it or not I have also been to a few places that accepted only AX..Go figure. At any rate it has not been a big problem for me, and the few times I have not been able to use AX has been at small shops or boutiques and have been rare..but it has happened.. I can not recall anytime that I have not been able to use AX at nice hotels / Car Rental/ or Fine Restraunts..I just try to carry a bit of cash for those purchases.

Doug, the difference between the Amex Membership Rewards and Delta is that the Delta miles can only be used on Delta. Membership Rewards can be distributed in any frequent flyer account with any airline you choose.

To the poster who asked about Diners Club: Yes, it's still there ... my company uses it for corporate travel, you get a Diners point for every dollar charged and there is a wide range of things to redeem the points for, from merchandise to travel. They have a website detailing this. I don't know how it compares to some of the other cards, but my company regularly uses our points for gift certificates for awards to company employees.

American Express Membership Rewards has far fewer airline choices than does Diners Club. AmEx uses TWA (for only a few more months, I'd assume), Continental, Delta, Southwest and US Airways. Diners has those plus American, United, Northwest, Alaska, Continental, etc. Diners also has a pretty amazing array of merchandise, travel packages, etc that can be "purchased" with Diners Club Rewards points. The downside, of course, is that not as many places take Diners Club although nearly all travel establishments do.

It's really a preference thing though. My partner uses Diners (loves it) and I use my Continental card.

Not to go too far off tangent with the Diners conversation: but a suggestion to anyone who uses Diners Club rewards: instead of buying the cool electronics equipment Diners offers in the Club Rewards catalog, buy an Amazon gift certificate instead, and buy the VCR or PDA or DVD player or whatever through Amazon. You'll get WAY more bang for your Diner buck. This tip was given to me by the lady who takes the orders for Diners rewards, by the way!
