Sky Auction

I've noticed a few comments about www.skyauction.com - it looks like extremely good deals. Where can you check out how reputable this company is?
We're in the process of trying to find a nice one or two bedroom ocean front condo in Maui - ideas, anyone? We're Canadians so don't want to go over %150 American per night. Thank you

You will NEVER get anything for a dollar, their "taxes & "surcharges" make sure of that.

As I noted in an older post on the subject:

We have gone to Kauai twice through Sky Auction for a 7-day stay each, the last one being via Sun Travel. Both times were air/hotel-condo packages that were okay and cheaper than other possibilities at the time.

BUT, you have to bid on the right thing and one that isn't going through the roof, also don't try to do air/hotel as separate items because the "Taxes/Service Charges" and "upgrades" will kill you.

Be VERY CAREFUL regarding the "Taxes/Service Charges" and "ADDITIONALS" such as departing from an airport near you and/or the time of year -- or even day of the week.

READ EVERYTHING about the auction.

I've used skyauction several times, and never had any problems. In fact, I booked a ticket through them to fly to Europe on 9/13/01. I was able to deal directly with the airline to rebook for a few days later.

Definitely don't forget about the taxes.

Do not bid on any item until about 15 minutes from the end of the auction. Otherwise, you're just driving up the price unnecessarily.

Set yourself a bid limit and STICK TO IT!!! Most people don't, and that's how they end up paying as much if not more than they would through regular channels.

I found some great deals, but only because I followed my own advice.

It can be excellent, but be aware of those "taxes" as mentioned above and that sometimes you are bidding PER PERSON. You really need to do your homework before you bid because many people way overbid more than the package is worth.

Have had 1 successful hotel auction, great deal, have been outbid by folks 3X's by people that don't research what they are bidding for beforehand.
But you can definitely get great deals with patience.

One final note is that most auctions appear every week for months so if you don't win one time you will have more opportunities
