I see it everywhere.
Women who leave their handbags in a grocery cart while they stroll into the next aisle to look for something.
Women who leave their kid in a grocery cart while they stroll into the next aisle to look for something.
Women who leave their handbag and kid in a grocery cart while they stroll into the next aisle to look for something.
Women who leave their handbag and kid in a grocery cart while loading their food into their vehicle while looking ahead and away from their cart.
People who let small, very restless children stand in grocery carts where it is clear it is inevitable they will fall soon.
People who sit children on railings.
People who let small children go into restrooms alone anywhere, anytime. The worst I saw of this was in a dark arena while a noisy ice show was going on and the restrooms were a long flight of stairs and a long walk away. I saw a little child in the next row toddle off alone. Seems the parents (two parents with one small child) didn't want to have to skip a moment of the show to tend to their child.
People who allow their children to behave as if they are in their own living room anywhere and everywhere - climbing on anything and everything, flying between people, vehicles, standing on anything and everything.
People who let their little children wander all over big stores alone while they shop - and have no idea where the children are.
People who let their children head down steep, rocky, loose gravel trails in flip-flops.
Do they think their children are invincible? Are they really that ignorant to the risks involved? Are they waiting to collect damages for their childrens accidents? Do they have more kids at home and won't really mind if the one with them gets broken?
Maira, I don't feel safe even speaking to a strangers child. I admire your husband for helping. I fear legal action for trying to intervene.

Riskiest thing I see quite frequently is women leaving their purses unattended in their shopping carts. Now and then I remind them that they are taking a risk...had my wallet stolen once, out of a desk drawer at work and that was one time too many. Not too exciting, is it? Just mind your purses, ladies.

One time at Disney, staying at the Yacht Club, my dad and I went for a walk over to EPCOT early in the morning. A mother was laying on the beach, asleep while her toddler waded in the water. Less than 20 feet away sat a 10' gator watching the kid, obviously stalking him. My dad went and got the mom to get her son out of the water while I found a security guard. His response -"We don't have gators in the water!" I told him then it must be a funny looking log with eyes and a tail. He finally went over and looked. THen he finally called the Game Warden who came over and trapped the gator. One of my highlights of that trip was watching the trappers.

I always strap my purse into the shopping cart with the child safety belt. Won't necessarily prevent a "pickpocketing" (I try to keep an eye on it), but at least it will stop someone from grabbing the whole purse and running.
Re kids - letting your kids walk BEHIND you (or straggle behind you) in a crowd --- shopping center or otherwise --- is insane to me.
P.S. to Karens - we were at Slide Rock a few weeks ago and a kid fell about 20 feet on the rocks. We and everyone else watched for the next hour (from afar -- I never actually saw the child) while they tried to rescue him with a rescue helicopter, which was having a great deal of trouble because of the wind. I actually don't know if they succeeded.

I'm always amazed at stupid fishermen.
We usually stay in the same condo on the 11th floor at Perdido Beach. I am an early riser and most often see guys standing in the gulf fishing with a bait bucket tied around their waist. This activity is most often done around sunrise, right when the sharks are out looking for breakfast. From the 11th floor you can actually see schools of them swimming close to shore.
It seems like for the past several years there have been numerous shark attacks in this part of the state. Signs are posted warning the public when to be wary of sharks but some people just don't get it.

In Ireland, people climbing over the railings at the Clffs of Moher and walking backwards chatting with their friends. Were they the stupid ones, or was it the people standing at the very edge waiting to be knocked over by the people walking backwards? Someone fell the day we were there but fortunately we had already left. I think Yellowstone probably has the most stories of stupidity! I think people have the attitude of “well they wouldn’t let us do this if it wasn’t safe”. I don’t know who THEY is though.

A few years ago I was on the Grand Princess and walked out onto my balcony deck. I leaned against the rail and looked to my right and saw the occupant of the cabin next door hanging upside down by his knees over the outside rail of the balcony. And we were at sea going 20 knots or so at the time. The guy had to be at least 30 years old. What a moron.

We were on a dolphin sightseeing boat in Hilton Head a few years ago with our kids. One of those 60-90 min boat tours to see the sights. We found a school of wild dolphins and porpoises and the boat slowed to a crawl so everyone could take picturs. This happened so nonchalantly and quickly, we thought it was part of the adventure - a man dove off the second level of the boat straight into the pool of dolphins. We realized this was no joke when the boat came to a dead stop and the captain and a couple of mates started yelling at him. How drunk this guy was, I have no idea, but he took a lot of risk - wild animals, uncertain current, could have gotten dragged under the boat. The police escorted him off the boat when we finally pulled in. By the way, the kids thought it was quite a show!

dads who let their kids walk behind them while mowing the lawn..or ride on a mower with them...
I do think there is a demographic that isn't uneducated but stupid; the yuppies you see on Supernanny whose kids are walking into the street and they're still not shocked when they see it on video because their lives are so perfect they really can't imagine anything bad happening to them.

But should the word not be spelled
Sightings ??
especially if one is calling something Stupid, you want to get the spelling right, at the risk of being called....well, you know...

About leaving the purse in the cart while shopping. I too, have stop women to remind them not to do this, it's insane. Someone could be off with their wallet while they are looking for tea. And they would never be able to identify the thief. I worry about this ever since I saw a woman at the check stand going through her purse trying to find her wallet, saying, “it was just here when I used the ATM.” She had no money either. And then she turned around and looked at everyone in the line, like we had ripped her off. It was unsettling.
What is in these purses that you'll need it in the grocery store? Get a tiny little purse that straps across you, or a wallet on a string type of thing and leave your purse in the trunk. Deposit it there while getting out your grocery bags.

Yes. Everytime I see it, I think the OP meant to say "sittings". Then after reading it, I still thought the OP meant sites (places) where you've seen this type of behavior. Typos and spelling errors are minor things to me on a casual board like this and God knows I make plenty of them -- but this one in the title was a bit bizarre.
