Single man looking for group tour
I'm a newly single man of 60 looking for group travel this summer or a suitable beach resort. I enjoyed a group tour of England in the past, but now looking for something in the US or Canada.I also went solo to Cancun some years ago and did not enjoy it. Any tips?

there are as many specialized groups tours as there are kinds of people. Depending on your interest, check with your church, bank or senior center for group tours they may be planning. If you want to travel a bit more, check with a travel agent for ideas. You can pick a company that specializes in more active trips, history trips, sports trips, wine trips, high-end, low-end...the list is endless. To help you narrow down the choices, choose either a destination or the type of tour and start researching. You can also find tour companies by browising around the net.

They have several age groups and both US and foreign tours; prices look reasonable. I agree the Elderhostel thing might be a good idea because I think you qualify at 55 years, it's not quite the same type of vacation you may be thinking of, though. I'm in my 40s and was taken aback by the suggestion that at 60 you should be hanging out in senior citizen centers, I think that's probably not your best resource at your age (I will start hanging out in them when I find Robert Redford and Tom Skerritt there also). O Solo Mio has very young groups, middle ages and then 65+ so that's a good categorization, I think. There are lots of culturally-oriented tours but those tend to be very expensive; sometimes you can find them at the non-enrolled adult ed sessions at local universities, check into them. Often there will be good group tours that are athletically-oriented, if you're interested, respond as I don't have the info here (horseback riding and biking or hiking in particular), plus I know of some interesting cooking class type things in France or Italy, but those aren't group tours where you travel around, you just go one place for a week or two, but get to know a group and have a shared activity so it can be fun. You might also look into Rick Steves' tours, they are group and definitely accommodate singles (in fact, one problem is you are required to roomshare, I think, so if you don't like that, you're out of luck), they tend to be somewhat more active-oriented than traditional group tours (ie, a canoe trip one afternoon); I'm not sure if they have them in US, though (www.ricksteves.com); they aren't cheap but are probably enjoyable.
