We are going to Phoenix AZ in July. Actually staying in Scottsdale AZ. What is there to see or do there.

Harold, there are no separate forums for different states (even if you picked Arizona from the list, all questions get lumped together in the US board)

I suggest you repost your question with "Phoenix and Scottsdale" in the title, and you'll probably get lots of help.

It is also best if you give us a little more information. we don't know if you like art history hiking swimming whatever, and whether you're going deluxe, on a budget, with kids, senior citizens, etc. The more information you can give, the more appropriate the suggestions you will get.

Wowsa - it's going to good and hot in Scottsdale in July! Plan enjoying your air conditioned hotel room and hit the malls. ALso hope that your hotel has a really nice pool to enjoy.

We just returned from Scpttsdale. Yes, it is hot, but LOW humidity. I live in St. Louis, and would take 95-100 degrees over 90 degrees here any day.
About 1and 1/2 hours away is Sedona. It is a beautiful area. The drive up is scenic and it is a bit cooler. It is the beautiful big red rocks, A great place to have brunch, etc.. is L'Auberge de Sedona. It is right next to a babbling creek under big trees and the food is Delicious!
The heard Museum in Phoenix offers a wide variety of Native artifacts, art, etc... It is internationally known.
Old Town Scottsdale is fun. There are fabulous art galleries, old time saloons, fun little silver shops, etc...
For a great dinner, try T. Cooks, it is located in the Royal Palms Resort and is outstanding, looking over the camel back mts, in a historic building.
Golf is everywhere.
They have a great Botanical garden - albeit a desert one.
Lots of great shopping in Scottsdale, up and down Scottsdale Rd.
For a Hokey time, try the "Rawhide", I did not like it at all, but it is a western theme place.Mostly for kids I think.

Just a quick response to Ann's weather comment: Humid or dry, when the temperature gets over 100 (as it regularly does in Phoenix/Scottsdale in the summer), it's hot!!!

Greetings from Arizona. Yes the weather will be hot, but with no humidity it won't be as bad as you might imagine. You will be fine.

There is lots to do in the area and you might want to check the listings under Arizona to get the information. While you can't post requests under certain sections you can look up by states.

Please note that Arizona is currently in the middle of the worst drought in state history. You will not notice this in Phoenix, but you probably will if you venture to the north. Sedona is a great place to visit. Oak Creek Canyon (just north of Sedona) is once again open and will remain open on a day to day basis. The area was closed last week due to a high chance of fire.

Your trip is coming during our monsoon season, so be prepared for some dust storms. We are all hoping to get rain, but it doesn't look good.

If we do get rain, the north Scottsdale area typically gets flooded. This shouldn't be a problem unless you book a hotel along one of the washes. So, I would avoid the Holiday Inn Sunspree on Indian Bend. Nice property but right along a wash that is the first thing to get flooded.

Have a great trip and consider driving north to the Grand Canyon if you want to escape the heat.

100 degrees might be the even temps in July, but be prepared for 120 in the daytime.

The botanical gardens are great, but can't recommend them during the summer months.

Wanna do something dynamite? check out Fighter Combat Int'l - you can go there, fly a real plane with a fighter pilot (yes, really) and you dont have to have any flying experience. 12 yrs old and up. It's an absolute blast! Watch out Tom Cruise!
