Shopping in NYC on Dec 26

I'm looking forward to my Christmas getaway to New York and have most of my days planned. I'm thinking of shopping on Dec 26th, (Boxing Day to me) and I'm wondering where the best shopping will be.
Any special spots for this big shopping day?
I suppose I'm looking for mid range casual clothing. I can't afford the designer labels, but like nice clothes.
Mid range like Tommy Hilfiger, Jones, that sort of price range.
Perhaps I will check out Saks and Macy's.

Saks is high end, so if it is Tommy and Jones you are seeking I would stick to Macys or Lord and Taylor. there will be plenty of coupons to be had for either store. check the local newspapers particularly the free ones like AM NY, or Metro, both available in the morning. the stores open pretty early in the morning that day (7am, 8am) they will get very crowded as the day goes on, so I would get there early.

Or you could take a bus trip out to Woodbury Commons, the big outlet mall that's a magnet for tourists in our region. It has all those stores and much, much more and can provide a full day of shopping for you. Many people (especially foreign tourists) come with empty suitcases. There are many buses from Manhattan out each day.

That day is often a zoo, as people start returning what they got.

Check Century 21. As others said, get there really early. Find out when the stores open and get there at that time or close to it.

Out of my own curiousity, what do you consider mid range, say, for a pair of jeans? How about a pair of boots?

Forget Saks and stick to Macy's for mid price things. But do be aware that the mobs will be incredible that day - I would wait one or 2 more to avoid so much time standing on lines.

Will you have an assistant? You can't buy if you are trying to carry packages. Also handy to have someone carrying the items you want to try on.
