Anyone have any info on the Sheraton Maui? If you have stayed there; please rates overall, best things and worst things about this property. Thanks!

Josh, was at the Sheraton Maui about two weeks ago. I found the place to be pretty nice. The buildings and the grounds are kept up very well. I wrote a quick review on the Hotel Rants and Raves section that lists all the pros and cons of this resort, but overall, i think the best thing about the property is the atmosphere. The beach and the grounds are probably what people think of when they think Hawaii. Beautiful beach, nice manicured grass, tropical foilage, palm trees, tiki torches at night, etc. The cons are that I felt the resort was a little too pricey for what we got. Our room was a decent size (deluxe oceanview) but i've heard that most aren't. (We were upgraded from regular oceanview because they messed up our accomodation request a bit.) And, I truly felt nickled and dimed to death there. Seemed to be little surcharges tacked on everywhere. The service was very average as well. Hope this helps.

Rheianne, read your rant and rave. Thanks for posting it. I was thinking of the Sheraton for a trip next April, but am now rethinking it. I happened to call the Sheraton directly a few weeks ago to check on room rates, and was not impressed with the reservationist. On the other hand, I also called the Hyatt Regency and was more than pleased with the person there, very helpful and pleasant. Did you happen to notice anything about the Hyatt. Would be interested in your viewpoint. Thanks.

sherrie, sorry, can't say too much about the hyatt. the only contact i had with the hotel was a quick walk through one day - i did notice that the pool system was much more elaborate than the sheraton's. any other questions, please feel free to ask. don't know if i can help much, but i'd be happy to try!

Sherrie,

Just got back from Maui last week. I stayed at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel, but I went to the Hyatt Regency twice during my stay. The Hyatt is unbelievable. The pool area is spectacular, with waterfalls and coves. The grounds are very artistically designed....with a japanese flavor. The grounds also double as a zoo, with swans, penguins (yes penguins) and cranes.

There are hammocks for your use next to the ocean. You may also get a 20, 50, or 80 minute massage in one of the many canopies along the ocean. You have an unbelievable dining experience right at your hotel with the 'Swan Court'.

I am not sure about the service, as I did not stay there. When I have the money, I'm staying at the Hyatt Regency next time!

Thanks Rheianne and Dan. Sounds like the Hyatt may be a better experience.
