Shelling Captiva Island

Beverly, I visit Sanibel every year. Like the previous poster stated, shells are everywhere. However, if you go to Blind Pass Beach (just over the bridge from Sanibel to Captiva), you will find piles of shells - right next to the stone breakwall. The surf is too rough there to swim; however, the strong surf carries the shells up on the beach and deposits them on top of the mounds of shells that are already there. Have fun.

Why are they shelling Captiva. I read that those Puero Ricans didn't want the navy to practice aiming at that island but did they have to move it to Captiva. I know we are at war, but what was wrong with practising shelling where they were doing it before. I'm going to call my congressman tomorrow and suggest other Americans do to.
