Shannon Court Hotel in SF?

Hi! My husband and I have stayed at the Shannon Court Hotel twice. Our first stay was very enjoyable. When we returned five years later, the hotel was under new ownership and some of the niceties were missing. During our first stay, the staff was very helpful and accommodating, without being asked. The concierge would recommend restaurants, bars, sites, etc. and call for taxis for us. During our second stay, the staff acted as though they could not be bothered. The concierge told us that the Shannon Court was under new ownership. We were a little disappointed with their attitudes, but we did enjoy our stay. The Shannon Court is an older hotel located a few blocks off Union Square on Geary Street. Geary Street is a major boulevard in San Francisco and it's very easy to pick up a bus to wherever you want to go. I found the rooms to be simple, but comfortable. We stayed in a junior suite the first time we were there, and it was lovely. There is one thing you should be aware of, and it may make no difference to you, but I want to point it out. As of five years ago, the hotel had no air conditioning. This did not pose a problem for comfort because if you open a window, you get a wonderful breeze, and it's almost always cool in San Francisco. However, because of the downtown location of the hotel, the street noises can be quite loud. We learned to tune them out after a day or so, but it is something you might want to consider. If I based this post strictly on my first visit there, I would have to say I would definitely return. After my second stay, I would say I MIGHT return there if they were under new ownership. This has nothing to do with the aesthetics of the hotel itself, only of the staff at the time. If you decide to stay there, let us know how it works out for you. I'm actually curious to see if they've changed. BTW -- if's you have never been to San Francisco, you will love it! I've been there many times and cannot get enough of it. Let me know if you need any suggestions for things to see. Take care and enjoy!
