Serrano Hotel or Cartwright in SF??
Hello all--
I'm finding really good rates at these hotels in SF (I really want to be in the Union Square area). Are these decent? Good? Tiny?
My budget is $150/night, so if you have recommendations, I'd love to hear them..THanks.

hey, ive stayed at the serrano last october 99. i liked the rooms v much. very clean and elegant. the area wher its at is bordering the tenderloin area though-the crappy part of san fran. its too bad for that though. but the lobby is nice. the cartwright seems nice, and i think its a little better situated. i would try the cartwright.
i rec the hotel carlton. its not as fancy as the serrano, but in a nicer area. its only like about a mile walk from union sq. good luck.

Hi Dee,
Ok, I live in San francisco and neither of these hotels are near the tenderloin. They are both near Union Square. When I did a quick search at travelscape.com I found a lot of great hotels right on powell street in Union Square for between $99-$125. Since I don't stay in hotels I can't say which are better or not(live here), but I have heard about the Sir Francis Drake And the Westin St. Francis both right on Powell, Since they are in your budget this is where I would recommend. Any questions, email me.

FOr a direct Union Sq. location, there's a Hyatt Union Sq. HOtel that is wonderful-stayed there last year for a meeting with hubs--also try Villa FLorence or Monaco hotel --they are part of the Kimpton Group and we've stayed at them previously--great hotels with good location-may have summer specials--the Cartwright is OK-nothing to write home about and probably the same price as the Villa FLorence--At Villa Florence ask for a Jr.Suite(it's actually just a larger room with a sofa area) All the Kimpton hotel Group hotels have famous rest.in their lobby--in Villa Florence, the rest.is Kuletos-Italian-very good---and Wolfgang Pucks' Rest.Postrio is located in another of the Kimpton hotels--just can't remember the name--even tho I've stayed there 3 times!! But see if they have a web site and look them up.....All thes hotels I gave you ARE in Union Sq. and are VERY SAFE.
