September in Newport, RI
My husband and I are planning a trip to Newport, RI in the beginning of september, we believe we'll be able to get better rates on hotels and some peace and quite. How is the weather at this time of the year there? Will we be able to enjoy the beaches? Can anybody recommend a nice, not too expensive (less than $200 a day), place to stay w/ a outdoor pool?
It will be our first vacation in 5 years, and we were thinking of staying at least 7 days if we still have the beach and the pool to enjoy.
Any help anybody could give us would be greatelly appreciated.

If by the beginning of September you mean the first week of the month, be aware that the first weekend is Labor Day weekend and "Zooport" (the local's name for the city during the summer) will be anything but peaceful and quiet. The next weekend won't be quite so bad, but since the weather is usually great right into the end of September, it will be still crowded. If you show up the day after labor day (Sept. 4) and stay your seven days, you should be able to enjoy the beach and the pool. Just plan that the Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday of your stay might be a little more crowded than you might like (maybe you could take the Ferry over to Block Island or up to Providence on one of those days).
Can't help much as far as hotels go, I know there is a outdoor pool at the Doubletree Islander, but I'm not sure if the rates will be less than 200 a night (almost certainly more during the weekend).

Check out www.gonewport.com for a fairly complete listing of accomodations. Unfortunately, I don't think the hotel rates ever really get substantially lowered during the off season - Newport is a popular destination any time of year. But they're likely to be cheaper during the week.

My husband and I just got back from a long weekend in Newport and LOVED it! We stayed in a lovely bed and breakfast called The Willows of Newport. Very romantic, although it had no pool. They did serve breakfast in bed, though! We took a beautiful champagne and sunset cruise, the sailboat was called the Madeleine. We had two amazing dinners at Le Bistro and 22 Bowen. The mansions and Cliff Walk were also great. We can't wait to go back. Have a great time!
