SEPTA Question

We will be coming up from Baltimore early am. What would be the best SEPTA stop to drop people off for them to go into downtown Philadelphia? I plan to continue on to Allentown. Thanks

I don't know which route you intend to travel, but I assume you'll be on 95. If that's the case, you could drop them off at the Wilmington station, or you could just drop them off in Philadelphia. Columbus Avenue runs parallel to 95 for a stretch. You could drop them off there, and have them walk into Old City.

Let me GUESS about your plans, and then I'll give an answer based on my guess.

1) You're driving up I-95 from Baltimore.
2) You plan to go up I-476, just southeast of Philly, as you head up to Allentown.
3) You want to drop off people somewhere along I-476, and then they'll head into Center City Philly via SEPTA.

If this is correct, your best bet is to use Exit 3, Baltimore Pike, for Swarthmore, and head east (right) on Baltimore Pike till you get to Hiway 320, just past Springfield Mall on your left.

You can go north towards the Sproul Road trolley stop

where you can buy tokens (cash ONLY!) for a trip to 69th Street Station, and from there you can ride the Market-Frankford subway to Center City.

Note that this will cost two tokens per person EACH WAY.

Or you can go south on Hiway 320 to the R3 Light Rail Station at Swarthmore

and ride directly to Center City.

My recommendation, however, is to continue north on I-95 into Center City, get on I-676, get off at the Eighth Street exit, drop off your friends, continue on I-676 to I-76, go west on I-76 to I-476, and continue on. More driving, of course, and you will likely encounter traffic, but I think the overall trouble for everybody will be minimized.

I agree. Center City Philadelohia is less than 2 minutes off I-95 and very simple to do.

Thanks for the replies. I was going to do the 476 route but I realize now that dropping them off is a much better idea. Driving into Philadelphia is not like NYC or Boston. Thanks
