To redneck and the others worried about exploitation of a 9/11 national holiday: yes, doubtless some sleazoids will try to make a buck on a tragedy, but that's human nature unfortunately. You can certainly say the same about Christmas, July 4 and Memorial Day, all of whcih are over-commercialized. But should we stop celebrating/commemorating those days because they're too commcerical? I don't think so. We can't not observe the single worst disaster to happen to the US just because some jerks will exploit it. Why not called it National Day of Remembrance. Memorial Day is a special day for the military, and on 9/11 the majority of the victims were innocent civilians.

If anyone's interesed here's a link to show the proposaed plans for the site.

Elfie, I'd be very interested in seeing the plans but I can't seem to open the files. Do you have any idea what program is needed to do that?

Cass, you need RealPlayer to see the computer generated images. You can download RP for free.

Goodness! Thankyou all for your sharing- my committee is meeting next week and this has been a great start for brainstorming! Please in the next few days, if any one has additional ideas, let's hear from you! And thanks again!
PS: Carole, may you feel the strength of many prayers!

Best of luck to you, but I fail to see why you posted this on a travel board.

How about the wringing of the bells...
Yes, bell wringing starting at the time the first plane hit ... followed by a moment of silence...followed by a patriotic song....

Bernadette, I think you mean "ringing" instead of "wringing". "Wring" as in 'wring out the water of a soaking wet towel.' "Ring" as in 'someone answer the telephone, it is ringing.'

September 11th, should be something very tasteful and very solemn, and possible celebrated in the same tone that the Jewish holidays, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are celebrated.

Oops, meant "possibly" instead of "possible".
