Speed control, I think, no pointy ends, and you don't need an incline!lol!
Very easy to control, from what I understand, and while watching a demo on GMA, Diane Sawyer purposely, 'ran into' people to see the effect...denied damage/injury.
I had hoped to do this while in Oahu last year, but they had stopped it at that time.

You know those things cost about $5000 or $6000, right? Whooeeee!!!
Actually, those things are great for older people who cannot walk so far but really enjoy walking tours. There's a seat that flips down from the front steering device so that they can sort of sit/stand.

Melissa,
are you sure about the seat?
www.segway.com offers many options, but no seats, besides, the whole idea of controlling and manuvering the thing is with your body motion and that may not work well with somebody sitting down.

Well, I don't have any personal experience with the seats, but that's what Segway of Hawaii owner Alan Rice told me. I understand what you're saying--I tried test driving the Hawaii Segways--but Alan was probably referring to accessories not available on that site for consumers? he sent us to a site with mega-souped up Segways, I wish I had saved it. The reason I mention the seat is because he wanted to market to cruise ship customers, and I raised a concern that many are elderly and cannot stand for that long. So he explained the seat option to me. Maybe it's not a full-on sitting position, but more of a lean.

I've just returned from Oahu and went on a Segway tour whilst there. We were staying in the Hilton, so the Segway office was on site. The staff were really helpful, and went through a familiarisation program before going on the tour. This involved basic maneouvering and stopping and starting the Segway. Followed with a two hour trip up towards DIamond Head. Cost approximately $100, and was worth every cent. Highly recommended Mike Nodding UK

There is now a segway tour in Kailua that is absolutely amazing, i went with my family and it was the best activity we did on the island. We did the half day package and saw Kailua in a whole new way , we learned things we never knew and went to places we never would have discovered without this tour. The guides were so personal it made the experience one to remember.
