Exactly. Never hike alone. The trails safe in a way that you will probably not be mugged, attacked by a javelina, or fall into a ravine.
However, there are many trails in Sedona that are popular with both locals and tourists. Stay on the beaten path and don't go wandering off the trail.
Bummer about your experience on Broken Arrow trail. Next time, bring a cell phone, bring a friend, or pick a more popular trail.
