Sedona and MV

been doing a reaserch to take 2 friends from Asia to Sedona and Monument Valley.
Here is my tentative plan and I would appreciate comments/input. Short may be the trip, I still want my friends to see and experience the the best of America West.

day 1
take the first flight out of NYC to Phoenix to arrive around 9:30am.rent a car and drive to MV to arrive aroundd 5PM, I think. Do the overnight stay with the Tetem Pole Tour.

day 2
tour the MV by Jeep. drive to Canyon de Chelly. Drive to Sedona for one night stay.

day 3
tour the Sedona. Visit Montezuma Castle. Go back to Phoenix for one night staty.

day 4
Leave for NYC

Is this doable and are there any other place to squeeze in ?
Thanks for your advice in advance.

You do realize that they will be spending most of their time in the vehicle driving.

That said, I'd would add the scenic drive thought the Petrified Forest and then pick up Hwy 180 to Holbrook.

I'm surprized that you chose Sedona over the Grand Canyon.

Thanks for you reply.I do realize we will be driving most of time and I would like to avoid that. Would I be better off if we flew to Las Vegas(or Phoenix) then go to GC and MV ?
Whereelse do you suggest that my friends can enjoy Old West/Cowboy kind of experience ?

Phoenix will be closer to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, & Canyon de Chelly.

Your first route was 775 miles and if you just did Grand Canyon and Monument valley you are still looking at 725 miles.

Is there any chance of adding a couple more days?

Monument Valley is a long way off. I would drive to Sedona, arriving by about noon. Drive over to Jerome look around for a few hours, then back to Sedona for sunset.

The rest of the time, take in the GC and sights around Flagstaff, including Walnut Canyon and maybe out as far as the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert.

You want to tour Monument Valley, then do Canyon de Chelly, then return to Sedona - all in one day?

Must be one of those 36 hour days!

Far too ambitious...day 1, drive to Sedona, putt around while there is still daylight. Day 2, stay in Sedona OR drive to GC OR MV........day 3, if you go to MV, do a.m. tour, p.m. drive to Canyon de Chelly.......day 4, do CDC a.m. tour and drive back to Flagstaff...oops, you're out of time! I don't think you're leaving yourself any time for meals or bathroom breaks or any emergency situations. Distances are great here, some long and boring, especially in Indian country, it can be a long dry spell between spots. When we have visitors, we get up early, drive to the GC, stay overnight, drive to MV for p.m. tour and stay overnight, next day drive to CDC for p.m. tour and stay overnight, next drive to Flagstaff or Sedona, stay in Sedona, on the way back to Phx. do Jerome and Montezuma Castle. Depending on the time of year,

We left Sedona about 12:30/1 PM and drove to Grand Canyon. We drove into GC from the South (I prefer entering from the East, but...alas, this route worked for our purposes on this trip). We spend most of the remaining daylight hours in GC, then drove to Kayenta, spent the night. Next day we toured MV and drove to Canyon de Chelley, drove around (I think) the South side, stopped at the Hubbel trading post, then on to a notel motel near Holbrook. It was a lot of driving, but I did not feel rushed at any of the sites I wanted to see. We even had enough time to stop and talk to one of the Indian Policemen about what the speed limit was...LOL!

Thanks all for the great advice. I now have pretty good idea how to organize this trip based on the driving time and distance required. My trips have always had truend out nicely when I took the Fodorer's advice so I am sure this will work out just fine too.

By the way, does anybody know if the road on this route is OK for big cars like Cadillac or Town car ?
I once did Seattle-San Farncisco in Town car and it was much less tiring because the car was so comfortable.
The big cushiony american car is the best for long driving, I think.

We driven all these roads in our motorhome, so any size car will be smaller than that!
