Seattle trip report

Just wanted to say a quick thank you to all of you who assisted me in planning our weekend getaway to your wonderful city. My husband and I had a great anniversary weekend. We decided to stay at the Hotel Monaco (we got an AAA rate of $188 for the Med. suite with a huge jetted tub)! We were thrilled with the hotel choice. The staff was extremely accomadating. They even had a bottle of champagne waiting in our room to surprise us- nice touch. The hotel had tons of personality and was small enough that the staff acknowledged and knew us as we came and went which felt nice to me.
The first lunch there we attempted to eat at Matt's in the Market- too busy and crowded. We should have made reservations but oh well. The Market Grill in the market was perfect for some chowder and half a sandwhich. Not fine dining but great for the price. We stopped at Ruth's Chris for happy hour at had outstanding seared ahi for a snack ($6!!)and a couple so so drinks. Dinner for the celebratory occasion was at Campagne. What can I say but we LOVED our experience there. We had mentioned it was our anniversary when we booked the reservation. They brought us complimentary glasses of delightful champagne to start dinner with. Our waiter was fabulous, and we had the privledge of discussing the wine menu with the restaurant's sommelier. The wine list is truly outstanding and the wines by the glass are top notch not just medicore 2nd best wines. Our meals were heavenly, fish of the day - fluke, and leg of lamb. We look forward to dining there again. We grabbed a quick breakfast at Sazerac which was good. Their lunch and dinner menus also looked quite tasty. For a treat after breakfast we walked to Macrina bakery in Belltown for a pastry to eat our walk in sunny Seattle believe it or not! Absolutely fabulous bakery- yum yum yum!
Thanks again to all for helping out with our trip. You're all the best!!!

We also had a fabulous stay (last year) at Hotel Monaco. Just loved the room, the service, the location (and AAA rate with tub). We enjoyed Sazerac throughout our stay for breakfast and late-night dining (fabulous at the bar and on the terrace).

Such a shame you didn't get into Matt's. We just loved that place - the food, the views!

Other places with which we were positively thrilled: Chez Shea and Elliott's, along with one fabulous brunch after the ferry ride at Salty's. Amazing buffet. Fantastic views!

Yes, thanks for reporting! So glad you ended up at Market Grill, one of my lunch mainstays-the grilled salmon sandwich is one of the best (and most Seattle-y) things you could eat here.

You realize that you are contradicting red_dog's diatribes against Seattle, right? (g)
