Seattle Trip Report
So I went on a long weekend to Seattle over the weekend and had a wonderful time. It was my first trip out to the west coast and it definitely left me looking forward to more (I can’t wait to visit again). I ate at Etta’s and Costal Kitchen and both were excellent for seafood, I definitely recommend them. In addition to both of those places, I walked along Pike’s Market and stopped by Ivar’s for some chowder and to feed the seagulls (which is encouraged believe it or not). I didn’t go up the space needle as the weather wasn’t conducive to it, and sadly the art museum is currently closed so I didn’t get a chance to see that either. However, I did get a chance to wander through the public library, and being a fan of contemporary architecture and art that was a real treat. Koolhaas’s building is amazing, and I was surprised to see a sculpture by Tony Oursler while traveling up the escalator. I spent a lot of time in the library and think that it is a real treat. My trip ended with a morning in Gas Works park before I headed off to the airport.

Sounds like a nice weekend! Yes, SAM is closed for a remodel. You will just have to make another trip back at a later date as it is definitely worth a visit. Nice to hear that you visited Gas Works Park. That was one of our favorite places to just go hang out and relax when we lived in the area.

So glad you enjoyed yourself. You must have brought some sunshine with you! If you like modern architecture, next time make sure you stop in Benaroya Hall and see the Chihuly sculptures. Also, the new opera house--McCaw Hall at Seattle Center is fabulous and often has wonderful ballet or operas. Thanks for posting.

stormy - I traveled from Chicago. Oh, and I did pop into Benaroya Hall to see the Chihuly scupltures, it was sunny and we got good pictures of them glittering in the sun (when he had his exhibit here in Garfield Park I went three times) and I also stopped by a gallery downtown that houses several of his works (I wish I could remember the name).
