Seattle Music?
Has anyone been to Jimi Hendrix's grave site in Renton? Is it accessible in the evening, as I will be there on business.
Also, does anyone know of the locations of different key places involved in Seattle's "Grunge" music revolution? I tried to find something on the internet but was unsuccessful.
Thanks as always to all who respond!

John: I have been researching the Seattle area for my family's upcoming trip this summer, and found the following:
Kurt Cobain's home is located at 171 Lake Washington Blvd E in Madrona, near the western shore of Lake Washington. It is best viewed from nearby Viretta Park, open daily from 4am-11:30pm. Although the garage apartment where Kurt died has been torn down, the house is still there. A bench in the park has become sort of a shrine to Cobain.
The original Sub Pop Records, recording label of early alternative rock releases by Nirvana, Mudhoney and Soundgarden, is located at 2514 Fourth Ave. in Belltown, northeast of downtown Seattle.
Also, one of my guidebooks shows a "Jimi Hendrix Statue", near the intersection of Broadway and E. Pine, about 2 miles west of the Kobain house.
If you have time, the EMP (Experience Music Project), the rock-and-roll museum at the foot of the Space Needle, is open until 9pm on Friday and Saturday. See: www.emplive.com
In addition, the Pacific Science Center, southwest of the EMP, has laser shows, set to the music of Nirvana and other grunge bands (Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden) on Thursday thru Sunday nights (see Pacific Science Center website for exact schedule).
If you find anything else while you're there, please post a trip report. My kids are huge Nirvana/Alt.Rock/Hendrix fans, and that is one of the main reasons we are going to Seattle.
Good luck in your "pilgrimage."
Donna

Jimi Hendrix's grave is in Greenwood Park - I'm pretty sure that they close at dusk.
Here is a map:

john! i did the same thing! 4 years ago 4 of us flew into seattle to respect jimi before driving down the rest of the coast to vegas. i imagine it would be closed after dark, most cemetaries are. maybe go early morning, before business. the office will have a map, and point you directly to where his headstone is. and you get to sign a guest book for jimi's visitors. bring big poster size paper and a crayon and do an etching of the headstone. it's what everyone does. i was weary of doing it to, but who am i to fight tradition? also, for music...i went to the o.k hotel cafe, allegedly where nirvana played for the first time. but, i'm afraid i don't remember much of the place

The site of the OK Hotel is being rebuilt, in part with money from the City of Seattle (paid to landowners to preserve the old brick buildings damaged in Pioneer Square). Whether it will ever contain a bar again or not is an open question.

Check out seattleweekly.com and nwsource.com. And EMP is a must for you--I believe they have concerts as well...they must have a website too...try emp or experimentalmusicproject. Wish I could help you more, but I'm a bit older, and more into jazz (Jazz Alley is great) and ballet.
When do you plan to come here? If you have time, I'll try to get my 20 yr. old daughter to respond--she's more into "grunge".

The ok hotel isn't around anymore. the earthquake we had a few years back did the building in.
