Seattle area -xmas-nyears
Family with young adults and a 7 yr old, travelling in RV. We want suggestions on an RV Park near this area. Some of the time we will be renting a car. We need suggestions on where to go and what to see. We plan so far Pike's Market, Enchanted Forest, Tacoma Zoo. We want to see Xmas Lights - decorated houses. Family party - ie First Night if there is one? What else can we do in and around the area? Shopping Center outside of the downtown area, I know of South Centre and Tacoma Mall what other suggestions. The ferry trip to Bainbridge Island - what is there? Are there any other islands you would suggest for a day trip

Typically it snows during Christmas, and generally people in Seattle are pretty stupid when it comes to driving in snow. You would probably be safer in Florida.
I suppose you might want to visit Southcenter or Tacoma Malls if you don't have a Penny's, Sears, or Home Depot near you. If you want to see lights, don't forget Auto Row in Auburn. On the other hand, I think there are fireworks at Seattle Center on New Year's.

For RV parks, I don't know which would be closer to downtown (if that's what you want) but there's an Aqua Barn RV Park in Renton, probably the closest to downtown Seattle. There's several RV parks listed in the yellow pages - you could do a search on the net and see where the locations are, or get their numbers and call and get more info.
Avoid the malls - they're just malls. There's LOTS of unique shopping at Pikes Market Place, the surrounding area, the waterfront and the downtown itself. If you're coming up I-5, you'll pass the Enchanted Forest in the Federal Way area, and if you really want to, then stop, but other wise there's so much more to see and experience up here. If it's your 7 yr. old you're concerned about as far as things to do, then try the Seattle Center/Space Needle. You all would love a ferry ride too - to any of the islands. Take a day trip up to Snoqualmie Falls. There's lots of Christmas lights too. Take an evening harbor cruise and see the lights by night. One of the best decorated (over l00,000 lights I think) houses is just minutes off I-5 near Sea Tac airport. (I posted info about it earlier on here). Address is l2605 l4th Ave. S. in Burien. By the way, Seattle Center is supposed to be really crowded NY eve, so keep that it mind.
As far as snow is concerned, yeah, Seattle (and outlying areas too) does kinda come to a halt with just a little sprinkling it seems, but part of the problem is that we're pretty "hilly", and then we get rain, so it's very slippery driving. Weather has been mild so far, so just keep monitoring it and be prepared. Hope this helps, feel free to contact me if I can help further. I hope you enjoy it up here.
