Savannah vrs. Hilton Head
I am going to Savannah GA for Memorial Weekend May 22-25 with my husband and 3 children. I am visiting my brother that lives in Savannah. I have reservations for The Marshall House since it was the only ones I was able to get reservations and that would take kids.
I've heard that it's haunted. I don't know if I can sleep there knowing this. Has anyone stayed here before? How would you rate this hotel?
What other hotels in the historic district are good and will take children? I don't want to spend more than $180/night.
I thought of Hilton Head and maybe just drive for the day to Savannah. I have heard it's about an hour's drive. I believe there would be more options on hotels and with this hot whether, it would be nice to be near the ocean.
Recommendations?

Did you specifically want to stay in the historic district--hence the Marshall House? I find it hard to believe there isn't any motel availability in Savannah, especially since your brother could make some calls for you.
Five people in one room might be the problem with others that "don't take kids".

I wouldn't want to stay in a motel. My brother sent me a link of like 10 different places he thought were the nicer hotels/B&B all in the historic district.
I would like the historic district just because I've heard that's the best place to stay but I don't have to. If there is a better place to stay at other than The Marshall House in another cute area, I am willing to try to book there.

I would definitely chose Savannah over Hilton Head! Since Savannah was one of the first places settled here, you are gonna hear lots and lots of stories about places being haunted! I wouldn't let that stop me from visiting a truly amazing city!

Hilton Head and Savannah are quite different expereiences. For your weekend the Holiday Inn on Forest Beach is $229 and the Comfort Inn is $209. Hilton Head is a beach vacation on a large island with great bike paths, restaurants and shopping. Nature cruises and nightly live music are fun for the kids. You should check out what condo rentals are running around Forest Beach for that weekend.
However, you are an hour to an hour and 15 from your brother.
If you are visiting your brother once, just set aside a day to go to Savannah.
If you check out other threads here, you will get plenty of information about Hilton Head.

Hilton Head would be cooler and have greater appeal for your children.
The Hyatt downtown Savannah would be a good fit for you.
Personally I would not want to stay at a B&B with kids just because they are usually so tchotched up there is too much chance for breakage.

Since you are going to be spending time in Savannah, you might consider Tybee Island as an alternative to Hilton Head. Tybee used to be called 'Savannah Beach'.
Tybee has a few hotels and plenty of old beach houses.
There is an ocean front restaurant 'Marlin Monroe's', casual, but a killer view (great for kids).
It is about 40 minutes from Tybee to downtown Savannah.
Just so that you know, Savannah's tourism has made a sub-industry of hauntings. The city is trying to capaitalize on its age by creating something sensational.
