Savannah Trip Report

Write from THE book Clary's is our favorite breakfast place in Savannah. Its a through back to another time. Nothing special just 50s charm. The servers are classic old time diner style with a savannah twist.
It was great to have a nice meal for 2 at $12.00 Biscuits and gravey, pecan pancakes and grits..
You might not go out of your way to dine here but if in the neighborhood stop by.

Mansion; Letís talk; the hotel is lovely. Yes there is art all over the place, walls, halls, even in the bathrooms but youíre in the city of SCAD. It ties together perfectly. Oh yeah itís a little gaudy but I think that is the personality of Savannah.

The room was wonderful and with a very comfortable bed. Our room had an open bathroom that played on your modesty. Some had said the walls are thin and that is true but nothing to distract from a wonderful stay.

Most of the staff seemed young but all were very friendly. The front desk struck up conversations with us as we went by and the bellmen/doorman were always there to open the front door for you.

There is a woman who works the down stairs breakfast nook who is much the interesting character. Very warm and friendly and was pleasant to talk with over an early morning cup of tea. Prices can run up quickly with a few drinks and to the point we went to the market one day for some cokes. I am sure it cost a lot to keep a place like this operating.

The pool is small but never was crowded, I wish they would have had better service poolside. Most of the time I had to call for service but that may be due to the lack of use. I donít understand, the pool area is lovely.

700 Drayton the restaurant is much underrated. I would say it is in the top 5 restaurants in the city, if not higher.Great space, nice date place!

Our sever was a little to all knowing. In fact two of my requests went unfulfilled. That however did not spoil a great great meal here. The Osso Buca Ravioli was an excellent appetizer. My pictured mixed grill over grits was buttery goooodd!!!

Would give two thumbs up here.

Spa; my wife had a facial and claims that it was wonderful and she felt she received a lot of service for the price. She also had a pedicure which was a bit costly for the level of treatment. She did state that everyone was very friendly and she enjoyed it very much.

NobleFare; First to say that our server was the most knowledgeable we had of all our meals in Savannah! Excellent wine list! We counted 12 tables.

Each dish is caringly crafted with simple ingredients. No phony business here..Just straight up simply well cared for preparations.. My one compliant is the small menu had so many choices that I could not try them all.

Chef seems to purvey local fare when ever possible. I could not even choose between the special items not on the menu.. All sauced or seasoned to perfection.

This husband and wife operation is a new shinning star in Savannah. Soon the locals wonít want you to know about it. I hope it never changes.

Bistro Savannah; Our server was knowledgeable and attentive and explained each preparation to us. The menu was southern innovative. We enjoyed the little nuances tasted in each dish. Wish there wasnít ham in the shrimp and grits however!!

Neat little bistro, would highly recommend.

Sapphire Grill; Greeted by a lovely hostess who seated us at a special table. Our sever was nice but seemed bothered. Ahh we canít all have good days. Other servers in the area always had a smile.

We had our minds set on a couple of menu items to learn that they were out on a Saturday night at 8pm? We heard later from another restaurant that they where in a menu change. No big deal, what we ordered was excellent and well prepared. This is special occasion stuff here unless less you are loaded.

We were very pleased and would highly recommend.

DOHO Cafe; In my opinion this is an excellent little lunch spot. Great home made item like tomato soup...yumy. Some interesting sandwiches too. I had the humus sandwich!!!

With a fresh squeezed glass of lemonaid..this was tops with me. Cookie was our server and very attentive.

I would not go back but not for any negative reasons, life is to short and there is to many places to see!!

Thanks for taking the time to do a trip report!

12.00 for a breakfast of B&G pecan pancakes and grits is a great deal. I'm sure those pecans were grown local.

Sounds like you and your wife had a lovely time.

Thanks for the report, johnb. My friend and I are planning a trip to Savannah in March and your reviews were very helpful.

Laurie - when in March? - not over St. Patrick's Day, I hope - big drunken celebration - unless that is what you are looking for.

Hi Gail,
We will arrive in Savannah on March 27th and leave on March 30th. Do you know of anything going on for these 3 days?

I have been trying to Priceline a room with no luck.

I am thinking about booking with 1895 bed and breakfast.
