Savanah
Please advise on trip to Savanah in April. 3 ladies in 60's and 2 in 40's and 1 in 30's. (I know quite a range.) Love history, antiques, antebellum homes and great food. Advice on reasonable places to stay? What area to stay in? What to see? Thanks for all your help!

Wow. Looking for advice way in advance huh? I am from savannah. If you like History, antiques..etc..you will love it. You definatel want to stay in the downtown area. Once you get here there are several tours you can go on. It is pretty much cut and dry. The tour sheets you can pick up anywhere do a great job of explaining each tour. The trolly tours are the best b/c you can get on and off as you please. But Savannah is a walking city. take the trolly to find out which areas of downtown fancy you the most..then walk..explore the outskirts of each area.

to Blueaguave-Thanks for our reply. Yes it's early but we are coming from all over the US and need to coordinates as much as we can. Is it safe too say we won't need a car-can just walk and trolley our way around? I've heard Savanah is easy to get around. Thanks.

I worked in Savannah for a bit and stayed at the Westin and the Mulberry (which is a Holiday Inn). For what you want, I would suggest the Mulberry. Ask for the rooms that have been refurbished.... It's a charming older hotel, within walking distance to downtown - but I would still get a car. You're probably want to do some driving around....

As much as I love Savannah, you may run out of things to do there if you're planning a long (more than 3 nights) stay. I surmise this may be in the cards since you're "coming from all over the US". If you're planning a weeklong trip, you may want to consider combining Savannah and Charleston (100 miles up the road). Both have what you've stated you're looking for.
And if you're doing a search on this or other sites, be sure you're spelling Savannah correctly.
And just to be clear, Savannah does not have a true trolley - only tourbuses designed to look like trolleys. The difference is that it's not really a public transportation system. Downtown is compact though, so walking is certainly an option. But I would probably opt for a car - you may want it to see some nice homes or head to the beach, and parking is not a problem.

Some friends and I did a weekend trip to Savannah this past March. We were there for St. Patricks Day which was WILD! We ate at a great place call The Pink House. The food was fantastic and they have piano music in the bar down stairs. Call for reservations. We also took a horse and carriage tour around town which we found to be very interesting.
