Saugatuck, Douglas, Fennville MI

Back from our annual family trip to Fennville and thought I would just note a few places we ate in case someone is looking in that area.

To keep the kids happy (OK, to keep me happy, too) we went to the What Not and Saugatuck Brewing Company for burgers. Tasty, reliable food in both places. DH really enjoyed the Neapolitan Stout at SBC; I am more an Oval Beach Blonde kind of beer drinker.

We were not able to have dinner at the Fenn Valley Vineyards this year - their grill-your-own dinner sold out in a FLASH. We will try again next year.

But we had a really delicious dinner at the Everyday People Cafe in Douglas. Good food and service, and it was a nice night for sitting outside on the back patio - just very pleasant in every way. I would definitely recommend it as an alternative to downtown Saugatuck.

My brother-in-law and his wife also enjoyed dinner at Salt of the Earth in Fennville. I did not make it there this year but the food there is great. Again, worth the short drive even if you are staying right in Saugatuck.

And, during the summer, Salt of the Earth runs a sort of open-air extension on a cement-covered vacant lot in Saugatuck. Excellent lunches.

An update: the open air extension is no more; they've moved indoors: "Lucies Little Kitchen"

We just spent a week in Grand Haven - hit Saugatuck on the way up and then had a delicious dinner at Bowdie's Chop House midweek.
