NYC subway question
Is it safe to ride the subway from Manhattan to JFK airport early in the morning? I will be travelling by myself and I need to arrive at the airport by 7.00AM. Thanks for your help.

It'll certaily be safe, but it's a long trip, even at $2, first subway, then bus. The subway won't be busy at that hour, but you should still allow at least an hour and a half for the trip to be sure you get there on time.
There are schedules and info at http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct/index.html

At that hour of the morning, it's just as easy to take a taxi to the airport. Granted it'll cost more than the train, but while it's safe to travel the subway, why?
If you don't want to hail a yellow taxi, call one of the car services such as Carmel (212-666-6666) or Tel Aviv (212-777-7777) they have a flat fee about $37 plus toll and tip.

I'm a big fan of taking the subway to JFK, but I doubt I would at that hour....not because of safety but because of the infrequent service. There is only one train every 20 minutes that early in the morning. IF they happen to be running on schedule. The ride is one hour or more because the train doesn't operate express at that hour. THEN you have to wait for the shuttle bus to take you to the terminals (there are about 10 terminals). The shuttle bus also stops at a bunch of parking lots along the way to pick up travelers and employees. So I would allow about 2 hours for the entire ride.
Or you could take the first (5:20 AM) bus from Port Authority to JFK, which arrives at 6:45 (see nyariportservice.com). It's $13 one way. I am not sure how much extra time you have to add in (if any) for the travel from terminal to terminal. It stops at each terminal for which there are passengers, and doesn't necessarily start with terminal #1.
