This was quite a few years ago, but there is a restaurant just outside of Taos that specializes in steak. The best I've ever had! I think it was called the Steakout. Ask a local, they will know.

I haven't been to the Santa Fe area in several years however, on previous trips I have played Cochiti and found it to be worth the trip. The course was just beautiful.

In Santa Fe it's remarkably hard to get a bad meal. Some recommendations:

I haven't been to the restaurant at the Inn of the Anastazi but hear it's wonderful

also, on the highway from Santa Fe to Taos, there's a dive called Roadrunner that serves breakfast burritos to die for

I agree with all of Georgia's recommendations above. Also Geronimo in Santa Fe is excellent. And it has a wonderful, romantic atmosphere.

We will be in santa fe in 2 weeks celebrating our 25th anniversary so we are enjoying reading all of the restaurant suggestions. We're flying into albuquerque and plan to drive the turquoise trail to santa fe and skip the interstate. We've been to Taos before so this trip we plan to do all our sightseeing in santa fe only. Definitely want to visit the O'Keefe museum but are open to suggestions for any other "must sees". We will have 3 full days in santa fe. For a special romantic dinner, would you choose geronimos or the restaurant at the inn of the anasazi? thanks

Went to Santa Fe in September...as a previous poster said, it seems to be hard to find a bad meal in Santa Fe. Following is where I ate, plus comments:
Coyote Cafe--great atmosphere and great New Mexican style food.
Vanessi--great food, waitstaff was excellent, and good music (starts around 7:30 I think).
Fabios--it's a seafood restaraunt with GREAT FRESH seafood (I live in Boston, so this was a surprise to me). Fabio and his family are all present in the restaraunt cooking, hosting, and waiting tables.
For breakfast, there is a cute French pastry shop adjacent to the La Fonda hotel (sorry, can't remember the name).
If you can break yourself away from the fairways, take a trip up to Bandalier Nat'l Monument, outside of Los Alamos. It was the highlight of my trip.

Me again. As for "must-sees" in the Santa Fe area, I heartily second Betsy's recommendations of Bandelier. The drive alone is spectacular, and the cliff dwellings are a lot of fun to explore and climb about in.

I'd add the Georgia O'Keefe Museum and the Museum of International Folk Art, a little outside the city center on the Old Santa Fe Trail. There's a museum pass you can get that gets you a discount at both and at the Museum of Fine Arts, also good but nothing special, the Palace of the Governors, good if you like history, and the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture,which I'd recommend also, especially if you're interested in pottery-it's located in the same area as the Folk Art Museum.

You'll probably also want to browse the art galleries on Canyon Road. If you like photography, there's a great gallery on San Francisco Street, a block or two west of the Plaza.

As for caveats, unless you are very devout Christians, the Loretto chapel and its "miraculous staircase" are total rip-offs.

Strong endorsement for two of the recommmendations: Santacafe for dining and the delightful and charming Folk Art Museum for viewing in Santa Fe.

I echo Dayle's suggestion for a great meal...the Steakout wins, hands down! BUT...go at night. The view is phenomenal!
