santa barbara weather

Apologies if I've already posted this. I thought I had and it has disappeared.
We are planning to be in Santa Barbara for most of August and people up here (Palo Alto) keep saying it is grey and cloudy in August. I have read of morning fog but three weeks of cloudy in a town said to have the perfect climate?!
Advice please!

Sounds like those people up in Palo Alto are jealous of the beautiful 78 degree days you will be enjoying.

As opposed to what - the beautiful 85 degrees and sunny weather they'd be enjoying at home in Palo Alto?

Thanks everyone, I had a feeling it might have been a bit of envy! I feel reassured.

Hi phidias, will you have a car? If so if you have a foggy morning leave Santa Barbara and go south on 101 and take the Hwy 33 turnoff. You will go on Hwy 33 east for about 20 minutes and you will be in the small artsy town of Ojai. The difference in weather is normally amazing. You could have breakfast or lunch there, go through the art galleries etc.
