Sanibel has the best shelling beaches in the hemisphere. Captiva is unique, be sure to tour Ding Darling Preserve, gators, birds etc. Eating, The Bubble Room is a great experience, McT's, There's lots but those 2 are my favorites. Sseaside I'm not familiar with, it may be one of the smaller in up the island. Enjoy your stay

We were in Sanibel/Captiva this past May/June. Sorry, we didn't stay at the Seaside Inn, but rented a condo for much more space and flexibility.
We waited until our last full day to go to the Bailey-Matthews shell museum; I'd recommend going earlier in your stay! It's a gorgeous museum full of very helpful volunteers. They have a half hour long slide presentation about shells that I learned SO much from. It will make your search for shells that much more enjoyable, and you'll understand the shelling laws much better after you see that. In a nutshell- NO LIVE SHELLS can be taken on Sanibel. Put the conchs back if there's a critter living in the shell.
As far as restaurants go, the Bubble Room is a fun place, but I'd recommend going for lunch. You can still sample their great desserts at lunchtime, but it won't be so busy as it is in the evenings, and the cost will be somewhat less. Other places we liked: Matzaluna, The Hungry Heron, McT's.

We stayed at Blind Pass Condos. They're at the northwest part of Sanibel. We LOVED our condo and wouldn't hesitate to stay in the very same one again. The price was right, as the condos are not directly oceanfront...you need to walk past the tennis courts and down a little nature trail to get to the beach, but it's one of the best on the island.
We had never stayed in a condo before and we just loved it. We could get up when we felt like it and eat our breakfast in our pj's. Just like home! And on the one rainy day we had, our condo was stocked with jigsaw puzzles, board games, VCR and movies...you name it! We generally slacked around all day between the pool and the beach and then ventured out for dinner.
If you plan on going, have fun!
http://www.blind-pass.com/ is the Blind Pass site, but we booked through Properties in Paradise ( http://www.propertiesinparadise.com/menu.html )

We have gone to Sanibel for 25 yrs. and think it is a very special place. We rent a condo through Priscilla Murphy Vacation rentals 1-888-265-1740. They have all kinds of accommodations, just tell them how many bedrooms. Most all on beach, some are beachfront or beachview. Many choices in different price range.Go for the "above average" , it will be a bit nicer. Enjoy ! P.S. don't know ab. Seaside.

My wife and I stayed at the Seaside Inn in October 1999. We loved it. Comes with a balcony, breakfast basket in the morning, free bicycles to checkout the island. They also offer cottages. It's a Conch style inn. Romantic. We had a great dinner at the Jacquranda Restaurant (recommend the stone crab). Our room overlooked the swimming pool and we had view of the Gulf. Check out their website. We're coming back in August.
