Sanibel Island
Hi - three questions - has the island and beaches recovered enough from the hurricanes to justify the high price of accomodations? Has anyone heard of the Tropical Winds Motel and Cottages off of West Gulf Drive, and if so is it a good place to stay?
Thanks.
Thanks.

airfare1, it was my understanding that the latest hurricanes did very little if any damage to Sanibel, and that the beaches, etc. are just fine. I think the "attractions" on Sanibel ARE the beaches and shelling, and the wildlife. Simple but fabulous ... we loved it last June!
We enjoyed eating at The Timbers THREE nights (loved the place), and the Island Cow was great for lunch.

The only major resort that has stayed closed is South Seas Plantation at the farthest end of Captiva... they appear to be doing a total rebuild after damage from the 2004 hurricane season... most others are up and running and seasonal prices have always been high... the beaches are fine...for now!
